hey guys i have a 94 SLS with a Blow head gasket it has been parked now for about a month i have a huge ? can i put a 4.9 in the car instead of the northstar because i know the 93 sevilles had the 4.9, i need the 4.9 instead of the northstar because of the lower replacment cost and lower mantiance costs i dont really care about loosing the power i just want every day use to be cheaper so guys can it be done or what ? ?? ?

It can be done, but it would be a real PITA, and you would pretty much need a donor car with the 4.9 (and then you'd already have a running 4.9 car.) Get another northstar to put in.

Aside from the head gaskets how does it run?

If it runs good do the headgaskets.

You can do the head gaskets for the same amount of work as changing to 4.9...and probably for less money. Changine to a 4.9 would be a lot of work.

As Davesdeville said, you'd have to get a running 4.9 and all the related parts, did you see one? I don't trust used engines that I can't hear run.

well my mechanic told me that head gaskets could not be done on these cars they dont hold well he said you have to replace the entire engine when they go he said gm recomends to do that and he has never heard of a succesfull replacement

Your mechanic speaks with forked tongue. He has fallen victim to Northstar myths.
