After work I hopped into my car and turned it on to get greeted by the service engine light.

I pulled for the code:

P0446 - EVAP Vent Solenoid Valve Control System

When I got home to get something I left the car running and I could hear a noise I haven't heard before coming from the front of the car.

It sounds like a pumps or a fan. A pulsing sound.

I straightened out the wheels to weed out the steering pump and checked to see if I Could feel air being pulled in from the radiator fans.

SHould I be worried about this Solenoid Valve? THis is probably the three error code this week involving the EVAP system.

Other two this week P0440 and P0463.

Level ride compressor or A.I.R. pump mabe?

The pulsing sound may be the EVAP solenoid malfunctioning. It is an emission control device. I don't think it will hurt performance but if you have emissions testing where you are, you won't pass with those DTC's.

Cadijeff wouldn't the AIR pump be in the back of the car? I know I've heard a weird clicking from the back, more towards the right rear to be exact, and assumed it was either the AIR pump or the fuel sender.

Ranger do you think that would explain the smell of gasoline I sometimes get? I checked the fuel injectors and the main rail but there was no obvious leak or even smell. The smell is strongest towards the rear and through the exhaust. I could be confusing the smell and it might not even be gasoline but that is what comes to mind when I smell it.

I only smell it on the coldest days, and since its been summer that means mostly after rainy days.

I got my emissions test done in April and in this state, MA, its every two years so should I put it off or would it lead to other hardware problems?

Yes, I would suspect that has something to do with the smell. The EVAP system stores gas fumes in a charcoal canister and the purge valve purges them to the intake to be burned at start up, if I recall how it works correctly. I'd inspect all the hoses in that system. Also check the FPR for leaks. That can cause a gas smell as fuel leaks into the manifold.

I was under the impression that the Air Injection Reaction pump was in the front of the car due to the necessary proximity to the Catylitic converter.

Yes, the AIR pump is under the hood. Railven may be talking about the ELC air pump.

I meant the A.I.R. pump not the air pump sorry for any confusion.
