Greetingz,

I am looking for a 2002-2004 STS as I like this style better than the new one and came across one but it was a SLS. When I went to check it out, the owner said it's a SLS with STS engine.:hmm: I then asked him did you put in the STS engine afterwards and he said the salesman told him when he bought it new that it was a factory option that you can get a SLS with the STS engine. Is this true? Is there anyway to verify a STS engine versus an SLS engine just visually from the engine bay?

Also, does anyone know the performance times on a stock 2003 STS and SLS(0-60mph)? Did a search and couldn't find anything. TIA!

I do not believe that you could get an SLS with an STS engine. Check the VIN. The SLS will have a "Y" engine code and the STS will have a "9" engine code. Engine code is the 8th character I believe. No way to verify it visually from the engine bay. The only difference is the intake cam.

The only way you can get an STS engine is if you buy an actual STS. Although the SLS had an optional STS appearance package that gave the SLS fog lights, a body colored grille, STS style wheels, and colored lower body cladding. No STS engine though.

Excellent. I think this older gentleman was confused from the STS Appearance Package from the STS engine or his salesman give him the bait and switch. It does have the STS Appearance Package as mentioned above. Maybe I should go back and look a second time for the engine code.

Anyone know about the performance on the stock STS/SLS?

TIA!

I do not have the numbers you are looking for but the SLS has a 3.11 final drive and the STS has 3.71, thus the SLS has a little more low end torque and better fuel milage. STS shines at the other end.
