View Full Version : Steering weirdness

My recently-purchased '67 DeVille convertible has a steering peculiarity I have not encountered before.

When driving at freeway speeds, it handles quite well until the road curves to the right. With even a gradual right turn, the car seems to "wander" somewhat through the turn, then is normal when the road straightens out. I don't know if I'm describing it properly, and the "wandering" is subtle, but detectible.

It feels a little like the sensation you get when driving on a grooved roadway and the tires try to follow the grooves. And it only does it on right-hand curves, not to the left. The front end has been professionally rebuilt, including replacing the center link, and realigned, and I'm running new Coker radial tires.

Could this be caused by a defect in the steering box? I don't know much about steering and suspension, so I'm guessing. I hope there's a steering expert out there who can give me a clue.
