2006 Cadillac STS-V - AutoWeek (http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060828/FREE/60817003/1007/FREE)

Did Autoweek get a dud? I mean c'mon. 469 hp is barely enough to get below 14 second quarters? This can't be right.

It seems something is wrong. The trap speed is pretty low which means they could of been not giving/getting full power.

best i have seen published is 13.2 at about 108. after owning the car for 5 months, even with a computer upgrade, it is not like the other high end hot rods that trap at 116 mph. very nice car, but just not that fast after 2nd gear. clay

so spend another 65 grand and get an overrated POS mercedes LOL....not worth it in my book, especially the new ones are ugly as hell...whats the deal with the curved rears now...ugh. and the cheesy body kits...looks like some rappers had influence on the new designs since they ruin everything with ugly body kits, cheesy side portholes that try and mimic buicks but do a horrible job at it LOL
ill drive a STS-V over anything. didnt a member here get a 13.1 with only a 2.0 60ft in a RWD STS-V .. thats horrible 60ft, u should be getting atleast 1.8's which would bring that sucker in the 12's as well...aside from the fact u give it drag radials ull hook up a lot better. i dont think 65 grand more is worth .4 seconds difference LOLOLOL u guys are too picky. aside from the fact the STS-V is 4200lbs, damn,

having owned a caddy V series and a MB there really is only 1 that is a POS and its not the one covered in sauerkraut.
a cls55 can be bought with low miles for high 70's a sts-v low 60's so really there is only a 20k difference. plus I challenge anyone in san antonio to run under 14 seconds down here against my cls55, our heat/humidity will kill that cars ET!!!
wait till those getrag diff's start talk'in to the sts-v owners.
I'm just bored today and wanted to type, the sts-v is cool but I like my MB very much, and its quality is the best i have ever had in a car to date.

The SRT-8 is only pulling a 13.66 in their test when they're well known for dipping high 12's; perhaps Autoweek has a problem???

i can't understand if the guy with the cls is stating his runs 12.5 in high heat/hum but all others at the track are running 14's?

I drive an STS-V and my wife drives an E55 Benz. We have raced dozens of times from a stop, roll, reverse; any way we go she kicks my ass. The V can hold it's own to about 40 mph then she walks on me. We both prefer the V interior in spite of having the controversial Black/Red combo.
To get some self respect I gotta find a faster 4 door. There is only one aspect where I'm quicker then her and that isn't something to brag about.

Yeah, that's why I asked. Something's got to be wrong with those guys. These are the slowest times I've seen listed anywhere for either car. Strange.

i agree, with the upgraded computer, mine holds its own to almost 50 mph, then the mbz 55's simply pull away. i know it sounds insane, but i am considering a dry shot of nos, maybe a 75 shot (halo)...just not sure how the ole northstar would manage the extra stress.

Still holds its own quite well. I couldn't justify getting into a sts-v so I went the reg sts v8.

To each his own!

The V8 STS will pull 14.20s. So Autoweek says that an extra 149hp will net you 4 tenths? That doesn't add up at all.

I test drove a 2006 STS V and it was not anywhere near the car my current BMW 745i is.

You can not place too much faith in the numbers posted by a car mag... there are a dozen different things that may affect the performance on any given day. The MW article in question even states that they had traction issues. A car tested in the middle of August will get beat by the same car tested a few months later in November.

Also consider things such as:

Traction Control Systems - where any amount of wheelspin may limit engine output...
Track Conditions- Prep and location can affect times...
Temperature and Humidity - Can affect air density and fuel mixture
Shifting modes - Did they use sport, standard, or manual?
Tires - were pressures lowered for traction? How do run flat tires grip?
Timing Equipment - Did they use track, portable, or on board timing systems?
Altitude - The track elevation can affect manifold pressures

Then you have the other variables such as the car itself. An engine that is not broken in yet may be slower on the track.

Would you expect the same 2 cars lined up on the dragstrip heads-up to run dead ties time after time? I think not.

The bottom line is that the STS-V is in an awkward marketing position. It is a good value for the $$$. All of the comparisons done by magazines so far have been against cars costing MUCH more.

Inurok, you must be kidding, the STS V blows off the doors on any 745i. Don`t tell me yours is faster!

Here in Germany the 745i even cannot hold up to our STS V8 (not V) export model.

OK, the V doesn`t have I-drive but I don`t miss it.

You got that right caddyv8v:thumbsup:

as I said before the 745i cannot even hold up on acceleration and top speed to the STS.

745 is a slouch... maybe a 750 can catch a v8 sts.... and a 760 could eat it up :)

I test drove the 550i and that couldnt keep up with the V, let alone the 7 series being that much larger. In fact, I drove a 750IL trial car today and acceleration was horrid. My CTS-V would kick the crap out of it, I assume the STS-V would do the same.
