I purchased a used head unit for my 98 Eldo. The dealer said it "might" have a security code set. If so, it must be cleared. Question: is there a way to clear the code with out taking it to a dealer? The unit comes with the VIN of the car it was removed from.
Thanks in advance

I believe all you need is the VIN. Ask CadillacETC97 I had sold him a 98 CD player and he got it to work.

no
it has to be cleared via a tech 2 and unless you have one (and not many do at a cost of over 3K) dealer has to do it
they should only charge you 30 min labor really it take like 5 mins so they kinda rape you but hey thats how its done, they need the orginal vin cuz its saved in the radio as proof you bought it legally and didnt steal it, however i dont see how you couldnt steal it and copy down the vin so its kind of a stupid security measure but none the less its how they do things.
