WHen you open the trunk? Mine always just opens right up with no delay. Nothing "slows it down", if that's what you mean?

Of course, when you close the trunk there is the electric pull-down motor that stops you from slamming it. Just a gentle push and the motor will take over the last three or so inches.

Hey Bcs,
No, Im Not Saying There Is A Delay. I Have Remote Trunk Remote, So If I Were To Click On The Remote To Open The Trunk, The Trunk Will Open All The Way Up. So If Im About 3 Feet Away, And I Click On The Trunk Release, The Trunk Will Open All The Way Up!!! With Force.

I Thought The Trunk Would Open, But Stop, In Other Words, It Will Just Open A Few Inches, Then You Can Raise It Manually.

You See What I Mean?

Thanks

Come to think of it, it is kind of "Un-Cadillac-Like" the way that trunk flies up so fast.
The hood has those slow-acting thingies that are one heck of a lot more dignified
The deck lid looks less so when I'm filling the car at a gas station and unlocking the fuel filler inside the trunk.:thehand:
It looks like the trunk is out to smack me in the chin. .:want:
Most undignified.:tisk:

My STS and my DTS just pop the latch and stay put. My Brougham opens right up. I agree it's un-Cadillac like.

Now I understand.

Sometimes it opens all the way up, sometimes it will just "pop" and stay down waiting until I lift it rest of the way.
Most of the time it flies up, though.
Cold weather affects it, IIRC.

My Caprice does the same thing (since these are similar cars).

Maybe there are adjustments at the trunk bars where you can create resistance, so it won't fly up when popped?

Hey Rick,
On the Broughams (or at least mine works this way) the fuel filler door (aka license plate) will fold down and be unlocked provided my car doors are unlocked when I exit the vehicle and circle around to the back of the car. That way it is not necessary to open the trunk and flip the chrome doo-hickey to unlock the filler door.

So if you press "unlock" on your car door it should also slide the crome doo-hickey over as well....

It's my belief that on the Fleetwoods the trunk normally opens all the way up. Other models stay put but others don't. It's normal for certain cars, yes.

^^Yep, I was just about to say that. The day I picked my '95 up, I went straight to the gas station, got out, locked the door and then didn't remember that the filler door locked too--popped the trunk, flipped the lock, etc. That was the last time, as I got used to it.

Just hit Unlock on your remote, or simply don't lock the car, and you won't have to worry about popping the trunk to flip the lever.

As far as the trunk, yep, mine flies FULL force open and then oscillates a little because it flies so hard, and it's a little obnoxious. But, as "un-refined" as it looks, just means I don't have to then lift the lid up also, so it's never bothered me.

I think I remember reading about someone changing or modifying the springs or the hinges on it to make it either open slower and/or just pop up. Not sure who it was, though, but it shouldn't be hard to figure out and play with.

Thanks, Guys!:worship:
As you saw, I've been nearly smacked in the snotbox more than once by the trunk flying up.
But the idea about those torsion bars adjusting the "meanness" of that trunk is something I just never thought about although I did just that on my old Cordoba.
And from now on I'll use the door lock thing to open the license plate lock for the gas filler.
Thanx again.

The trunk lid torsion bars are adjustable.

On either side there are three locations the end of the bars can hook into. The common method is to slip a suitable size length of pipe over the end of the torison bar rods and move them to a position that opens the trunk lid to your liking.
Just make sure you don't lock yourself in the trunk accidentially.

If all else fails, perhaps swapping in a set of torsion bars a junkyard RWD, B or D-body: Buick Electra, Lesabre, Olds 88/98, etc, may work better.

Personally, I prefer the trunk lid to unlock, yet stay down until I open it.

Interesting. I'll have to look into that. I prefer it stay down also.

Sheesh - - Just when I kinda thought that outfit might be the outfit you described and a couple of buddies with real cherry Lincolns would just love to cruise with their wives and mine if it wasn't something too far away like in Madawaska, Maine. :crybaby:

Who, good info. I know of the exact bars you are referring to from memory even. I will have to give that a go...

I guess a last sitch effort to get the trunk to not fly up once popped is to maybe add some stick-on weights to the trunk lid. :crybaby:

It was NY, NJ, PA, ME, MA. Or something like that. Most of the meets we had were in PA and the guys had several mini-meets in Long Island. See that was the problem, they were all from down that way and I'm way upstate NY so I could never go.

NELCE was formed when there was a power struggle in the LVC club. I was VP of the Northeast Chapter so I was nominated as VP of the new club. To be honest it was a waste of time. I met some great people and made some friends but NELCE was just never meant to be.

Ya know I just realized that the trunk on my DTS doesn't stay down. It does open all the way. BUT now I know how to resolve this issue :)

Thanks
