A while ago I had a thread all about trying to fix the climate control in my 79 deville. I still haven't really figured it out, and now what I'm thinking about doing is getting a whole system, including the dashboard from a newer brougham, like a 91-92, and putting it in my 79. I would have to dye it, but apart from that, would it mostly bolt in? Also I'm sure the wiring harness would be a serious issue, but I might be willing to deal with it in the interest of having a more modern system.

You might want to start by getting the Factory Service Manuals for both animals.
Try eBay and Helm.
I coubt Chilton or any other would go into the detail you'd need.
That should let you see what's common and what's not as well as what dimensions you will be dealing with.
Where there's a will there's a way . . . but some projects are just so damn big and detail picky, they become interest killers, too.
On the other hand, this one could be unique and interesting.

Are you referring to taking the digital dash from a 90-92 Brougham and putting it in your '79? If so, you're looking at a lot more work than any sane person should ever have to deal with. Apeman and some of the others can give you a better opinion on this, but I can tell you right now this is not easy. At all.

I don't want the digital stuff, just the whole climate control system, maybe the electric mirror controls, and the basic dash pieces. My dash is old and brittle. I'll try to find one of those shop manuals for the 90-92. I already have one for the 79. Actually, I'm selling the 79 if anyone wants it. I'll post a new thread about that. Changing the dash was just a side thought like, maybe I could do that and keep it, but I'm pretty sure I'm just going to sell it.

The lowrider guys put '90-'92 dashes in old Coupes all the time, can't be that hard.

try LayItLow.com - The online resource for lowriders (http://www.layitlow.com) for more info, they talk about it all the time.

It would be easier to fix the climate control stuff you already have then trying to get the newer stuff to work.

Yeah, I'm sick of it. I've been trying to fix it for a year now. Probably bad wiring somewhere or something. I think I'm gonna get a Ford Police Interceptor.

Talk about trading down...

Yeah, it is trading down, but I don't have the resources right now to put into maintaining the Cadillac. I want something rear drive, american, big and tough with lots of cheap parts available. I don't even like the ride in my Cadillac anymore. You hit potholes and bumps and the impact harshness is terrible. It always has been. And something is always wearing out in the steering. I put new parts in and it's nice and tight for a couple of months, and then it's starts feeling loose again. And the AC problem is mind boggling. The only thing I can think of to do is tear apart the whole dash and trace every wire to see what the heck is going on. I don't want to spend my time on that right now. I mean, I guess I don't have to justify myself to you guys, haha, but yeah...
