Whenever i start my '01 Catera Sport, my coolant lite comes on for about 2-5 minutes. It never used to do that, then it started every now and then, now every time i start my car, it come son and stays on for about 2-5 minutes. I had it in to the dealer for an oil change, they noticed it and couldnt find anything wrong???? The coolant level is right where it should be. Any ideas???

My 01 did the same thing. The coolant light would come on after I started the car and went off after the thermostat opened. I just added a quart of water to turn the light off and kept an eye on it. It came on again and I soon found that my HCV was leaking slowly.

So how much did that cost you to replace? I dont think anything is leaking, nothing is under the car after sitting.....????

How did you measure your coolant level?

I found that the overflow cooling tank's line is not that well 'level'... where it reads Kalt (cold)... make sure you actually about half inch above the line....

It's less expensive to buy an extra 2 litres of DexCool filler... and try that before having serious investigation - changes done.

I have a 2000 non-sport. Mine did the same, and then came on and stayed on...it was a bad-sensor and so I had to replace the whole tank.

Well, the coolant lite finally came on and stayed on. I called Caddy and they said probably bad sensor. So i need to replace it. Any idea on cost to fix it?

I have a 2001 non-sport and replaced the coolant reservoir due to a bad sensor.

yeah i think mine on my 98 went out for a while i could tap the floter in the tank to get it to work for a bit, but now it's always on. it's not leaking so why bother replaceing it...

Reading through the Vauxhall forums, it looks like the coolant is notorious for gumming up the sensor. Might be able to clean it out, though I hadn't heard anything of the sort. It also looks like the sensor isn't sold separately, but as an entire reservoir.
