View Full Version : Double DIN in '98 Deville?? NoGrill SSD12 09-17-06, 07:24 PM Hey all, I have planning my system for a while now and am still saving up, I was at first planning on getting a Clarion DVD 7" flip out screen but if I dont do that I will save about 400 dollars. So now I am planning on getting one of these....
Kenwood DPX-301 CD/MP3 Receiver (http://www.techronics.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=3668&aff=45847)
This will fit in a '98 Deville right?? I went out and measured the stock radio and it is 4" tall so Im pretty sure it will be fine but I wanted to run it by some people that know what they are talking about, thanks....
Rob 99Classillac 09-17-06, 07:36 PM As far as electrical stuff, I'm no good. You'll have to ask CadillacETC1997. But as far as fabricating stuff, i'm ok. As of right now, there isn't any double din HU kits. You know that piece that goes around the stock radio? When you put in a aftermarket radio, you need a kit so that piece will go back on. Right now it clips to the stock radio. But I have a 99 Deville. I have a Pioneer AVIC D2 nav system in right now. I bought a single din install kit because they make those, then i customized it and made it fit my double din. Once youd start cuttin and stuff, your going to want to cover the thing with some type of cloth of pleather or something because if not, it will look ugly. If you want I'll post pics of my install kit and how it fits. Looks stock. I used tan pleather because my interior is tan. 99Classillac 09-17-06, 07:39 PM BTW, the radio you want is tall, but not as wide as stock radio. The stock one was a monster. NoGrill SSD12 09-17-06, 08:05 PM The Kenwood comes with a universal double-DIN trim ring, from the description....so I dont know if that means anything?? I still dont really know much about installation and all that, I have friends that will help me out but thanks for any replys.... CadillacSTS2003 09-17-06, 08:08 PM 99 has it about pinned right on the head the solution
as of yet no dbl din solution can be bought for our odd shapped hus, however you can mod a single din to a dbl din. I dont know about this on eldo and sevilles or on the concourse deville because the hu attaches to the a.c controls and on the aftermarket hu fit kit, to the map pocket which will be cut out in modding to a dbl din.
i just was working on installing a factory navi system but scrubed the system due to various reasons, right now im waiting for arrival on my pioneer avic-n1 to install. i have one already installed in my 74 eldo vert NoGrill SSD12 09-17-06, 09:00 PM Ok, so the Kenwood would prolly not be a good choice since I dont know much about it?? What would you recomend I get?? CadillacSTS2003 09-17-06, 09:32 PM its not so much the hu anything can be made to work with enough money and know how.
i had a alpine single deck hu in my car till i got the N1 NoGrill SSD12 09-17-06, 09:40 PM Well only being 16 and working at Taco Bell, money doesnt just float around. I have almost 600 saved right now so another few months I will be ordering everything....I dont really understand the wiring or anything, no one has taught me or anything.....I dont really want to have to cut anything to make the Kenwood workout.....Thanks for any suggestions and help....
Rob the727kid 09-17-06, 10:43 PM ^^fourth Meal Bitches!!! :d 99Classillac 09-18-06, 09:50 AM You won't have to cut anything in your car to make it fit, but you have to get an install kit from circuit city, etc. and cut that because they are made for single din radios. Install kits are about $20 at circuit city. Online they are cheaper. Check this site, it has the kit I'm talking about. As you see, it is made for single din, just cut it up and make it fit your double din. May have to put putty in it to fill in any gaps after cutting, then glue some pleather on it to make it look pretty. 600 isnt gonna do much better than a bose setup to be honest assumeing you have bose SpeedyV6 09-18-06, 03:22 PM Are you sure the space for the radio is big enough for a double DIN and isn't merely big enough for a 1.5 DIN? Check crutchfield.com or sounddomain.com to see what fits. CadillacSTS2003 09-18-06, 03:39 PM yes
caddys have dbl din in our years of this i am sure... the727kid 09-18-06, 04:23 PM Haha yeah, $600 won't go far audio wise. NoGrill SSD12 09-18-06, 04:53 PM Well I did say I was still saving up and I know it wont do much....I will prolly spend about 1500 total when Im all done.....
As for the Kenwood, what exactly does Double DIN mean??? Does it just refer to the size, being double??
Thank you for the link, it wont be to hard cutting that to get it to fit, thanks!!
Rob CadillacSTS2003 09-18-06, 05:03 PM din is single radio size
dbl din means the size of two radios stacked on one another
a dbl din will fit in caddies NoGrill SSD12 09-18-06, 05:19 PM Allright, thanks, so I will just go with the Kenwood...it seems to have really good reviews and its not expensive so we will see...... the727kid 09-18-06, 05:21 PM Well I did say I was still saving up and I know it wont do much....I will prolly spend about 1500 total when Im all done.....
