View Full Version : my FWB with new wheels Couldn't pass up the chance to try something different on my Fleetwood, not to mention that the price was definitely right. Plus, with my new paintjob last winter I was really itching to get some new wheels ASAP so I settled for these. Factory C5 vette "wagon" wheels. Adapters to make them fit are through Rustic Racing.
They really make a great handling improvement over stock being that they are 17 x 8.5". I added Kumho Ecsta 711 summer performance tires in 255/45-17 (they were only $71 each) and I really like this choice so far - seem to handle nicely on dry pavement.
Car has Impala SS springs and sway bars. I have the stock level ride shocks for now - I adjusted the sensor and modified the arm so the car sits level in the rear now for a nice low stance. The new tires also lowered her a tad.
Here is how I modified my sensor arm: B.a.D Bodies of Chicago Tech Articles (http://www.badbodies.com/tech/fwadjustarm.htm) donvito 09-15-06, 08:53 PM F-I-N-E!!!!!
They complete it. There is an understated beauty and refinement. Not gaudy or plasticky shallowness, like you tried and couldn't pull it off. These wheels(and the whole package) definitely say "I rule, don't piss me off".
My highest commendations, sir...! UNCLLUIE 09-15-06, 09:42 PM Damn! Just tonight I was walking to my apartment from where I park looking at cars and thinking, "Nope. Like mine better. Nope. WOuldn't want that one." But looking at your pictures gave me a pang of longing for my dearly departed 93 Fleetwood!
Looks great! Good luck with it! 96Fleetwood 09-15-06, 09:46 PM Looks good  caddycruiser 09-15-06, 10:42 PM Unique look. Not my favorite, but also not something everyone else does, and still looks great:thumbsup:
Actually, I've been wondering what a set of the '05+ C6 chrome 5 spokes would look like on a Caddy, since they look SO good on a Caprice/Impala and I like the newer design a little more. Lord Cadillac 09-16-06, 12:46 AM Very nice! Those wheels look very natural on the ole Brougham... caddycruiser 09-16-06, 08:51 AM Looks really cool. The lower profile tires do it a tad, but he also has Impala SS springs installed that take care of most of the slight drop.
here we go again
Haha, I bet so...I will agree on this one that it's a bit of an odd combination and look, but not too bad. They'd be a GREAT fit for a Caprice or Impala, but look a little off on a Fleetwood. Definately makes the performance aspects of the car IMMEDIATELY noticeable, however, especially to those who would only first recognize the wheels. F-I-N-E!!!!!
These wheels(and the whole package) definitely say "I rule, don't piss me off".
Thanks again!
That is kinda the look I'm gearing for now. "I rule, don't piss me off".
I'm pretty sure I lost my sleeper aspect!
I would still like to keep my exhaust system quiet. As I've become older my opinion on driving a car with loud exhaust has changed. I used to love loud pipes, but now I appreciate hearing my own thoughts. :bighead: Plus quiet exhaust fits a Caddy much more appropriately, IMO. Good flow and a mediocre roar at WOT is my new goal.
An improved exhaust system over what I currently have plus a torque converter will complete my vehicle for the forseen future. The TC is in my garage now awaiting install... Big thanks to everyone for the props-

I had my own reservations about adding these to my FW. I figured worst case scenario, I have two other cars I could put these on as a plan B and C. But the more I look at the above pics the more I really like the look. The handling differences are amazing! It would be hard to pass up on them as is.
Plus, I have flames on my car now, and it's hard to hide that/ My original plans for the car were to make it a sleeper (make exhaust quiet, understated in the looks department). But when I had my car keyed, I decided to grab the bull by the horns and get a nice paint job with some extras while it was getting done.
So I guess it is snowballing from there.
The wheels IMO are understated yet have a performance aspect and "look" that is somewhat unique. On a corvette, they wouldn't be "enough" (which is why lots of vette owners ditch these wheels - they hate em'). But for a fleetwood like mine that already gives itself away, I think they have just enough pizzazz. I only wish I had a full set of rears from a vette, they were 18". (these came staggered stock on a C5 17x8.5 up front and 18x10 out back) They were also available in chrome but I think that would be too much for my gray car.
These wheels would look phenomenal on a triple black FW! Better than on my gray FWB.

Not sure I understand Benzilla's comment... I've read the past threads but I don't recall his opinion on FW's with aftermarket wheels. My guess is that he doesn't like it?
That's ok, I respect everyone's opinions. I wouldn't mind hearing them! Feel free to chime in with constructive criticism. :) caddycruiser 09-18-06, 01:34 PM It still does look unique, trust me, and the ghost flames really help out the image. And like you said, it is pretty amazing how much of a change/improvement larger (but not crazy large) wheels and wider tires make on this car, even without any suspension changes.
If it's anything like mine, I know it just looks that much BETTER in person too:thumbsup: Rick186 09-18-06, 10:59 PM BCs71 -
Go for that 2k converter!
Just remember to shut off your traction control.
>the switch is in the glove box - on the left<
You will have a real sleeper.
(I gotta stop this crap. I'm too much of an old phart to be doin' this stuff :tisk: )
My Carolina Performance Transmissions Stage II in my 95 FWB is simply too much temptation when some smart@$$ shows up beside me on a turnpike with stoplights and a 50mph speedlimit. . . .:)
If this keeps up, I'll wear those brand new Coopers down to the rim.:crybaby: Benzilla 09-18-06, 11:01 PM Well, sorry, I've been looking at those pics almost every day hoping to see whatever it is you do, but I can't. I hate the rims, sorry, but I do. To me it TOTALY takes away everything I love about the last Fleetwoods. With the original rims, they look very old school luxury, boaty, and IMO beautiful. Those rims (and most custom rims) take away that look, and all I see left is just another big car. IMO, what would look great on that Fleetwood, and with that nice paint job, is an old set of chromed baby moons with whites. Still custom, but also with some retro style, what do you think?
Thats just the way I feel, beautiful car, can't stand the rims. Damm, That Lower Look Gives It An Extra Ooomf

Thanks, Rick.
The last piece to my performance puzzle is the 2400 stall TC in my garage already. If I get my other winter projects done in a timely manner, then by spring that new TC will be in the Caddy. It should be enough to dip me into the 13s (pretty much for braggin' rights since I'm not a huge racer). I am looking forward to completing the car with the TC so I can move on to other projects I've been neglecting.

Thanks, man. I also agree that full-faced rims look best on these big cars. Only certain 5-spokes work well -- like Impala SS rims.
My all-time favorite wheels on a 1993-6 Fleetwood are the 19" AMG wheels a cat on the ISSF has.... they are just perfect for the looks of the Caddy IMO.

With the paint job I had (flames) the stock wheels did not cut it anymore. They were just way too boring. I was in a dilemma and decided to try these vette wheels because the price was very nice and they were local. They are not my first pick for this car, either; but fate led me down this road. I like them much better than the stock wheels.
I did consider some low-profile Vogues with a fat white-wall for awhile, but pricing ultimately ruled that out along with my desire for a performance aspect - it's built to be run hard so I needed some tires/wheels to hold up to the abuse. I'm more into "go" rather than "show" at this point.
Baby moons are not my cup of tea. I really never liked them much, just my opinion. Thanks for the suggestion - not sure I've ever seen them on a 1993-6, and I'm all about being different. I'll let someone else go that route, though.
Why else would I pick a 4600 pound luxury sedan for a performer project? :alchi:
Cheers, thanks for all the comments, guys! Looks nice! I just saw some Vette wheels for sale on Craigs list for good price (Corvette C5 wheels and tires (http://madison.craigslist.org/pts/205482390.html)) for like $275 ish. Don't have the $$...
Maybe someone else does, you owe me if you buy them!!! caddycruiser 09-19-06, 02:39 PM Looks nice! I just saw some Vette wheels for sale on Craigs list for good price (Corvette C5 wheels and tires (http://madison.craigslist.org/pts/205482390.html)) for like $275 ish. Don't have the $$...

Wow, what a good deal. Don't think I'd put them on my Caddy (not that I'd have a reason to, anyway), but they look AWESOME on a Caprice or Impala, and I would do that if that's what I drove. codewize 09-19-06, 10:40 PM I agree. Very nicely done and it looks great. Personally I may have stayed just a touch higher in the rear but a very nice job none the less. Nodih, good find on the wheels with winter tires. Very similar deal as I had found...
Like I said, lots of guys ditch the vette wheels because they just not sporty enough for the C5. I've even heard of some vette owners leaving their wheels behind at the wheel shop after getting new ones put on!
I agree. Very nicely done and it looks great. Personally I may have stayed just a touch higher in the rear but a very nice job none the less.
Thanks for the comliment!
Believe it or not, the back end of the car is actually higher than the front end! The air level ride sensor is adjusted to hold up the back end still so the car still appears kinda "raked". But it is as low as I can go for now -- my tailpipes drag when I enter the steep approach to my driveway as is. If I could get away with it, I would actually go lower in order to match the front of the car. Barrister_07101 09-27-06, 01:46 PM I think the look is good. I personally like full face wheels more ... but that's me. The color looks good already from the pics. I'm working on my project and when I think its appropriate I'll post some pics too. Thanks. | |
