View Full Version : Automatic door locks

I have a '94 FWB. GM has seen fit to try and keep everybody that has a similar car safe by installing automatic door locks. Everytime the car is put in drive the doors automatical lock. They also automatically unlock when the car is put in PARK. You all know this right? For me it proves to be more annoyance than convenience. Anyone out there know if there is a secret combination of button pushing that will deactivate the automatic from the door locks? Many newer cars will allow for this however, the Cadillac owner's manual offers no such choice.

Thanks

George,

I think this is what you are looking for:
AWH: Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham - Mods/Repair/Technical Information (http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/cfb-tech.html#rcdlr)

1. The ignition must be in the "run" position.
2. Find the programming connector that is hanging off a wire harness on the upper left side of the trunk by the left hand hinge. Its a 2-pin male connector with two black-with-white-stripe wires. (*)
3. When you short these two pins together with a screwdriver or shorting plug, the RCDLR will cycle the lock and trunk solenoids to confirm it is ready. This connector will need to remain shorted until your are finished programming the remotes.
4. Pressing any key (only once) on either remote will program that remote to the RCDLR. You will need to re-program both remotes once you begin the procedure. The RCDLR will only remember the last two (2) remotes programmed. Any transmitter codes that were previously programmed will be ereased.
5. The locks will cycle lock-unlock after each remote is programmed to confirm that it register its signal. Once the shorting plug is removed the alarm will sound for 1 second - this indicates that the system is ready. The system will not operate if the shorting plug is not removed.
To disable the automatic unlock-in-park feature:
1. After the last remote is programmed, but before you un-short the programming connector, press the following sequence three (3) times on a remote:
lock, unlock, trunk
2. The RCDLR will cycle the door locks and trunk release solenoids three times to confirm at the end of the sequence.
To re-enable the unlock-in-park feature of, just repeat the above to reprogram the RCDLR to your remotes, but don't do the special three-button-three-times sequence.

You can match a transmitter to as many different vehicles as you own, provided they are equipped with exactly the same model system.

Lots of other great FW-specific info at that site!
Cheers

Ahhh.....Update.... Must need two working remotes to make the command work correctly. Think the battery is dead (or broke) in one of the remotes. Could not get the UNLOCK IN PARK to deactivate using the one good remote.

More later!!!!

Well, got fresh batteries in both transmitters and tried the set up for deactivating the UNLOCK IN PARK again. The instructions for programing the transmitters worked. However, after several different times of trying the last part of the instructions to deactivate the UNLOCK IN PARK, the result were not successful. Anyone else try this and get it to work?

SOrry that didn't work!

If I get a chance soon I will try to remember to check my service manual and see if a procedure is listed...

Hope ABADOX isn't following along, cause after reading this he'd probably say "See.... I told ya so"

The recent instructions kinda worked, step on the brake and hit the unlock button on the remote 4 times. What happens now, after doing this, is the automatic door locks do NOT unlock when the transmission selector is placed back into PARK. They still auto lock when the transmission selector is put in DRIVE/ REVERSE but, now they don't auto unlock when put into PARK.

Repeated tries at putting the locks back to auto LOCK in DRIVE / UNLOCK in PARK using the instruction, step on brake and push the LOCK button on the remote 4 times, did nothing.

Ran out of time to keep playing with it. So we may be on to something.......

Well, I got the door locks to LOCK when the trans selector is placed in DRIVE and UNLOCK when the selector is placed in PARK. Which is back the way it was.

With the car in PARK, the ignition in the RUN position and pushing on the brake pedal. Push the UNLOCK button on the remote transmitter 4 times within 5 seconds. Then what happens is it LOCKs in DRIVE and UNLOCK in PARK.

Tried other combinations with no results.

I'm beginning to get the feeling there is no way to deactivate the locks and their automatic activation. Could pull the fuse, that would fix it, ha!!!!

George,

I ran across thsi article regarding reprogramming the Caprice/Impala door locks, perhaps there is some knowledge that can carry over to the Fleetwood???

Thanks again BC, This appears to be the same instructions as found in the technical manual. I didn't have any luck with this. But what the heck, could try it again......
