I took my gas tank for the 62 cadi to the rad shop to get tanked and cleaned, and the guy says he cant do it bcuz it had been done already in the past-he said it did not look too bad, but says i should run a 2nd filter-inline somewhere to catch the loose crud-b4 i put it back in i will shake real good and rinse out w/ fresh gas - where is a good and easy place to put this inline filter? close to the tank or-the rad guy says to get a rinsable one that i can just clean and put back in

thanks

Take your pick!
Just put it where you can get to it easily. :)
My Dodge B250 had one filter 'way back by the rear axle on the frame and was a real stinker to get to.:thepan:
I'd park one up front in a line under the hood but anchor it SECURELY so you wouldn't have a chance of vibration shaking it loose so you end up with gasoline dripping and maybe causing an engine bay fire.:tisk:
NOTE: Many Furds had this problem with their steel fuel lines which were brittle and after a few years simply snapped. I saw this with a company I worked for as a bulletin for drivers of fleet cars. Those who drove Furds had to go the dealer and get the lines replaced. (I had a Chevy at the time. LOL)

Usually with older carbed vehicles you'd want to run one filter before the fuel pump and one after the pump (usually up by the carb is easiest to get at -- see picture I posted below for the cylindrical glass one).
This way you will theoretically catch any crud exiting the tank with the first filter, but if anything makes it to the fuel pump (located low on the side of the block) then the 2nd filter after the pump will be the "fail-safe" filter.
