Right now mine is Photograph by Nickleback. A little late but for some reason it really appeals to me right now. Anyway just curious what everyone elses is.

I don't really have a favorite either. I don't even have a favorite genre of music.

"Beyond the Sea" -- Bobby Darin.

"Summer Wind" -- Frank Sinatra.

I can name two dozen others.

Maybe a better thread would have been "What's in your CD player now?"

Impossible question, yes. I couldn't even get down to my favourite music in my favourite type of genre.

And yes, I know I spell favourite wrong, but its the way I like it so I'm leaving it. :D

"Animals" from that same disc ROCKS!! And if you have a good subwoofer, there's a rift in "Fight For All The Wrong Reasons" that just hums.

My all time top 5 (that come to mind at the moment):

Time - Pink Floyd
Money - Pink Floyd
Time out of Mind - Steely Dan
Radar Love - Golden Earring
Frankenstein - Edgar Winter

I will always crank whatever it is when these are played.

If I narrow it down to one, it would be Kashmir from Led Zep.

Well right now, the most played song on my MP3 player is Meatloaf's epic 1977 masterpiece "Bat Out of Hell", but I have probably 5-10 favorite songs. But if I had to pick one, it would be The Rolling Stones' "Sister Morphine". This is my favorite Stones song, and I have a lot of songs I really love by them. It's so beautifiul, and yet very very haunting. It starts off slow on acoustic only, then builds momentum when Ry Cooder starts in on the slide guitar, and finally it gets moving when the rest of the band joins in with Jack Nitzsche on that really creepy sounding treated piano. That piano has to be one of the creepiest sounding instruments used in any rock and roll song. Best line in the song: "Ah, come on, Sister Morphine, you better make up my bed 'Cause you know and I know in the morning I'll be dead Yeah, and you can sit around, yeah and you can watch all the Clean white sheets stained red."

But other than that...

Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)-Bruce Springsteen
Funeral For A Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding- Elton John
Paradise By The Dashboard Light-Meat Loaf
Jigsaw Puzzle- The Rolling Stones
Rip This Joint- The Rolling Stones
Monkey Man- The Rolling Stones
Desperadoes Under The Eaves- Warren Zevon
Bad, Bad Leroy Brown- Jim Croce
Brother Louie- The Stories
Operator (That's not the way it feels)- Jim Croce

Lately I've been listening to a mixture of Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.

They teamed up to do a "Porgy & Bess" album and it's awesome. I had never listened to it before.

The one that goes:

"bop de bop, bitty, bap, boo, shamma, da, doo, tee...." Then guitar solo, then drum solo followed by some guy talking about wearing sun screen. Can't remember the name though.

Because I can't remember the name, because I like the song or both? :histeric:

For the record, I am a Detroit fan and I did grow up in Michigan. Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, yeah, I'm old and my hearing ain't for shit. Mispent youth and damned proud of it. :shhh:

They're sucking wind right now.

They'll be lucky to get the wildcard at this pace.

I predicted 78 wins for this season, so they've already surpassed my expectations.

Having been listening to music of all types for damn near half a century, and having a very wide range of rather eclectic tastes, I'd be hard pressed to come up with ten favorite 'songs', much less one...

Alot depends on my mood. In the car, or just sitting around with my thumb up my a$$, or working in the yard, these activities all require different musical accompaniment.

Having had a bit of a music theory background (band, orchestra and all), and having a mother who was a choral director and a church organist, and a father who sang as a boy at St. Patricks in NYC, I got exposed to a bunch of different stuff growing up, and like to believe I have somewhat of a discerning taste. It may seem unlikely to anyone under 25, but a groundshaking bass line is not absolutely critical to a song's quality.... :alchi:

But, enquiring minds want to know, so after much thought and contemplation, and a quick glance at my 400+ CDs, here is my top ten list, in no particular order:

1) Adagio for Strings, Samuel Barber
2) Highway Star, Deep Purple
3) Nessun Dorma by G. Puccinni, sung by L. Pavarotti
4) I Never Cry, Alice Cooper
5) Too Much Love Will Kill You, Brian May
6) Cavatina, John Williams (the Guitarist, not the Composer)
7) Still Got the Blues For You - Gary Moore
8) Rhapsody in Blue, George Gershwin
9) Night Boat to Cairo, Madness
10) Hellbound Train, Victoria Police Pipe Band
11) Raga mishra piloo - Ali Akbar Khan & Ravi Shankar
12) Got My Mojo Workin' - Muddy Waters

Yeah, I know that's 12. Sue me.. :thepan:

Wow I listen to everything, almost. In the changer right now is

Disc 1 - My own 70's mix
Disc 2 - Next generation Swing
Disc 3 - Another mix of Buddy Holly, Beach Boys, Jan and Dean stuff
Disk 4 - Mix of Island music, lots of steal drum and Trinidad style stuff. Very my style
Disk 5 - Johnny Cash, mostly from The Essentials album. This should be a prerequisite to own a Cadillac :)
Disk 6 - Ozzy Blizzard of Oz

These get rotated frequently. My favorite all time bands include Rush and Led Zeppelin. I love Frankie of course, and Dean Martin. Just to much to list I guess.

This may be a topic for another thread, but for those of us over 30, can you pinpoint the time when you stopped listening to "pop" music and started digging up your old vinyl and cassettes?

For me I think I was about 33. I went back to Motown and Stax for a while, then a lot of blues. When Sinatra died I started listening to all of that stuff for a few years, Rat Pack concerts, etc. That led me to Basie, then Ellington (for a second time). Once you do that, a whole new world of post-WWII jazz opens up. It's a bottomless pit.

Very hard question, but I guess your all time favorite song is the one that first pops into your head when asked the question.

For me it is Phil Collins, In The Air Tonight.

Every time i hear it it gives me chills especially imagining the scene from Miami Vice with the Ferrari Daytona. If you don't know what I am talking about check it out here...

YouTube - Miami Vice Pilot - Phil Collins "In the air tonight" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Tnyp9tRXRo)

Another one from Miami Vice that kills it for me is Russ Ballard, Voices

My vinyl has always been close to me.

I "discovered" pop music at about 12 (1966), joined the service in '73 & the first time I came back home (late '73/early '74) I couldn't wait to tune in my favorite Philly pop station (WIFI FM). That lasted about 20 minutes before I realised I HATED the format (screaming DJ's talking over every song) & the music. I then graduated to the "underground" rock station (WMMR 93.3FM) & they were pretty good until they changed format in the late 70's (before that it was no song repeats in 24 hours, no artist repeats during a 4-hour show). That's when I discovered the college radio stations (WTSR from Trenton State (now "The College of New Jersey" :nono: ) & WPRB from Princeton). They were great through the 80's but went to crap with rap in the early 90's. I'd pretty much given up on commercial radio by then & listened to mostly my own eclectic tape collection (until it was stolen in the late 90's) then I discovered WXPN (xpn.org) out of Philly. IT'S PUBLIC RADIO & IT DOESN'T (totally) SUCK! These days, if it's music I want at home, I'll tune the TV (DirecTV) into either deep tracks (XM40) or bluesville.

Don't have a "favorite song" & would be hard pressed to name my 10 favorite albums, but Steely Dan & pink Floyd would be at the top of my lists.

The man has taste.

Lately I've been listening to Bluesville a lot too. I always forget that XM is on my DirecTV.

When I'm home I'm plugged into my MP3 player or the Pocket PC streaming a Spanish station that plays really good old jazz some nights. R.E.M. fm Spain's Largest English Language Radio Network (http://www.rem.fm)

If I had to pick one, I would have to go with "Hotel California". I was coming home on the expressway one night at about 1:00AM, and I put that song on and it was so nice listening to it on the ride home. I must've repeated it like 5 times!

The first time I had Deep Tracks on in the evening & Earle Bailey came on between songs, I nearly jumped. He broadcast on WMMR in Philly for years in the 80's & early to mid 90's, then disappeared. His sound, style, & delivery haven't changed at all.

I'm more of a metal head but I do occassionaly throw in an 80's mp3 disc in the car. Some of it is really good stuff especially Genesis/Phil Collns and even John Mellencamp or Bruce Springsteen. Of course there are lots of good one hit wonder songs too.

You take the good. You take the bad. You take them both, and there you have the facts of life. The facts of life.

There's a time you've got to go and show you're growing. Now you know about the facts of life. The facts of life.

When the world never seems to be livin up to your dreams, and suddenly you're finding out the facts of life are all about you. You.

It takes a lot to get them right when you're learning the facts of life. (Learning the facts of life.) Learning the facts of life. (Learning the facts of life.)

Learning the facts of liiiiiiiife!
