Hello all! First let me say... this site is an awsome collection of folks and information that are most helpful. My in-laws gave me their high mileage (177k) 96 Sedan Deville because of a starting issue they were having and didn't want to spend any $$ on it. With the help of this site I was able to easily:
1) Replace the starter
2) Replace the starter cable
3) Remove and clean both the throttle body and intake manifold.
4) Replace fuel filter
5) Drop fuel tank, remove and ispect fuel pump assembly (check ball)
6) Locate and diagnose FPR problem (which was cause of bad starter) which
turned out to be a bad 50 cent o-ring, letting fuel bleed back to tank,
instead of $50 FPR!
7) Leaned how to access and clear codes
8) And many other cool things I have yet to try out!
I have several more issues that I need to address but I'll try to ask them in the appropriate forums, however, this one I will ask here since it is truly a newbie question.
The ID tag on the drivers side door indicates it is a 95, but when I went to the parts store to get a the starter, had to get the one for a 96. The engine is indeed the N* 4.6L. So is my Caddy a 95 or 96? I have no documentation on the vehicle and my in-laws are no help.
Thanks
Steve
