I'll bite.

It's becoming a family tradition that when my family gathers at my sister's house for Christmas, my parents bring slides from when we were kids in the Sixties and Seventies. Last year, I asked for copies of a few of the slides. Here's one of me from 1967. Recognize anything in the background?

http://www.gdwriter.com/gary_nellie_67.jpg

No, it's not Betty, but close. It's Nellie, the '64 Impala that I grew up with and learned to drive in. Here's a picture taken shortly after my parents bought her in December, 1966 when I was six months old. God, I loved that car.

http://www.gdwriter.com/nellie_67.jpg

Even when I was 2, I had an affection for this car. Who would have guessed that someday I would be driving it. I know this picture is from 1968 because that was the year Texas had white-on-black Hemis-Fair plates for the '68 World's Fair in San Antonio.

And this one of me and my Dad from 1970 (again the license plates provide the date):

I was a cute kid. What the hell happened?

Me and my cousin Anthony were the lego pros. We used to build these huge fortresses, battle armed cars, tanks, and all kinds of war machines. We would just pool our legos and make massive things that occupied entire rooms. We were unmatched...

Me and my sister in the early '70s (I'm on the left). Can you tell where I get my gearheadness from (that's dad's '67 Vette - he still has it)?

Here's a few of me at between 3 and 4 years old in Fulton, Maryland where I spent most of childhood. The house I grew up in, right after my parents bought it in 1963, and the way it looked in the early
'90's. That's a 1963 Ford Fairlane 4 door sedan sitting under the carport.

I was over my 'rents house tonight. Their house (the house I ultimately grew up in, after we moved from the ranch showed in the 'Vette pic) was built in the mid-60s. Anyway, we were talking about remodeling their original 1960's style bathroom. I told them they need to ditch that window in the shower/tub area. WTF is up with that? I noticed it in one of your pics. Was everyone an exhibitionist in the '60s? My 'rents had a guy come buy and recommend taking that window out and putting a skylight in instead. Makes sense to me.

My house was built in 1999. I wonder how much of it will look silly in 40 years?

That picture was actually taken at our first home in Adelphi, Maryland, which I was in until I was 2 1/2. Obviously, I don't recall much there... Gotta love the pink tile with baby blue tub theme... I'm sure that will be back in style before too long.

The house in the posted pictures was built in 1962-63, and while it had a window in the bathroom, it wasn't near the tub/shower.

The house I have now was built in 1882, and after 124 years, there's relatively little I'd want to change structurally. Personally, I'd love to re-do it to make it as original as possible, except of course with the modern conveniences of electricity, running water, a/c, gas heat, etc.
