I understand some 80's Fleetwoods had steering boxes with faster ratios than the Deville, which vehicles would have them?
There is a 1985 RWD Fleetwood coupe in the local J-yard with rear stabilizer bar and a slightly larger front bar that may be a good candidate.
Also, will the effort be higher as well? I like overboosted, one finger steering.:2thumbs:

Im not sure if the ration is faster, but my 88 brougham is one finger steering (aka take your pinky and spin the wheel. it will go all the way to the lock)

If you're looking to upgrade, get the box from a mid 90's Impalla SS.These guys can help you

Oops, never mind. I just realized we were talking about an 80's Fleetwood.
Best box? 1992 WS6 Trans AM. 2 turns lock to lock, best road feel you can get. Bolts in. AND, constant ratio! I HATE variable ratio almost anything! Especially steering and springs!
The changes are road feel and internal stops. Avoid using a 1970-1981 F-Body box, they have internal stops that will make poor steering in a B/D body.

Thanks, but I'm not looking for a high effort-road feel unit. I had a new 1989 WS6 Pontiac 350 Formula. The handling was amazing to the point of almost being dangerous, i.e. high performance car with low performance drivers.
Mabey I'm just getting old but I don't care for that kind of steering in a luxury car
Driving a Cadillac I'm aware there is a road down there but I don't want to know about.
I thought perhaps there were faster ratio, low effort units as well.

I think the '93-96 Fleetwoods have a faster steering ratio than the boxy '77-'92 models, but I could be wrong. I know that '84 Sedan deVille I drove had really vague steering, which is probably what you're looking for.

1991 & 1992 is the same as 1993. I think the only difference is because of the electronic variable assist part. Older ones might be the same too but some might just be worn out.
