View Full Version : Help installing Deck & Speakers in 98 DEVILLE sedan 98cadenadeville 08-31-06, 10:22 PM Ok I just got a 98 Deville with 53,000 miles on it its just like new. I love this car but it came with a cassete player and im realy bored in my car without my music. No its not the Bose. I had a nice system in my old car and want to move it to this car my problem is I dont realy know how to take things apart in these caddy's im affraid im gona break something.
1st Question- HOW TO INSTALL KIT FOR NEW DECK?
I took out the factory radio pretty easy just took off panel and took 2 springs out and it came right out. Now I bought this kit at best buy. It is the right one but I cant seem to get it in any special things I have to do???
2nd Question- WIRING THE NEW DECK? (Alpine mp3/wma)
Ok I bought the right harness for my Deck. I have been reading around and Im reading that you have to run your own constant wire and some other wierd stuff?? What kind of problems am I gona have?? and what do I have to do them?? I matched all the colors earlier and tried the deck out but it didnt turn on. I didnt realy look around to see what the problem was though so I dont know.
3rd Question- Installing front speakers
I bought some new front speakers but dont know how to take off panel. Im pretty sure I can wire them but I dont know how to take off the panel and im affraid to start pulling on it and breaking clamps. How do I take off the front door panels??
4th Question- Installing 6X9's in back
I bought some new 6X9's and thought it would be easy to install threw the trunk but I guess I was wrong I couldnt get the factory speakers to come out through the trunk. How exactly do I take the panels apart from the inside to get to them?? or do they come out through the trunk???
Any Help would be greatly appreciated because im realy starting to get frustrated, thank you. CadillacSTS2003 08-31-06, 10:42 PM 1. to install the new radio you must break the tab in the back of the slot where the pin from the old radio went into....
2. all depends on what adapter you got if you got just a harness everything will go wrong if you bought the one which comminicated with obd2 data bus only the constant issue
31st remove the plastic end tabs on the pull bar there should be 2 phillip screws remove them. then pop out the plastic square buy the door handel on the inside used to open the door. unplug everything and remove the plastic control bezel. next lift UP on the door. it should come up then out. then unplug everything else and the panel is off...
4 you must remove the rear seat they come out through the top of the deck. push in and up the bottom of the seat will come, top is removed by unbolting 2 studs which are in the trunk behind the carpet. 98cadenadeville 08-31-06, 11:33 PM 2. I got the Blue Harness with the 32 pins hope thats the right one. it has all the speaker wires. Red, Yellow, Orange 2 blue and black w/ stripe wire
If I do have to run my own wire where do you suggest I run it through so you cant see it. Then I think you run the yellow to the red on the harness right?
Thanks for the rest of the info man I realy appreciate it I was realy starting to get frustrated CadillacSTS2003 08-31-06, 11:39 PM nope wont work youll have codes galore
your car will have no communication with the new radio without the correct harness the car will continue to send a singal out searching for the radio causing the battery to die.
it could also assume the radios been stolen and sound the alarm
also if you take the car to the dealer they cant put it on the computer due to no communication with radios
cadillac is anal you need to have a data bus wire harness 98cadenadeville 08-31-06, 11:42 PM damb that sucks, so where do I get this harness and how much is it? I got the one I have at best buy. Thanks CadillacSTS2003 08-31-06, 11:45 PM best buy doesnt have it theres your major mistake never trust or buy anything from best buy, circuit city or the like for high end cars go to a true car audio retailer....
itll set you back about 120 bucks
you could buy mine off me works 100% i went aftermarket and am now instead working on a very difficult task of putting an 03 seville delphi navi system into my 97 etc... 98cadenadeville 08-31-06, 11:52 PM Ya I know they wanted to install it there but I was like noooo They broke the crap out out my 91 Cougar and that car is easy to work with imagine what they would do to this car?? I didnt think the harness would be a problem but I guess it is. So how much are they?? How much are you selling yours for? CadillacSTS2003 09-01-06, 12:10 AM was hoping to get like 80 for mine i didnt even use half the wires. i had bose so i had to rewire anyways all i needed it for was computer communications ground and ignition power. it cost me 120 bucks special order. 98cadenadeville 09-01-06, 12:17 AM They are pretty expensive then im gona ask around at my local audio stores see how much i can find them here and ill get back to you ok. Thanks again for all your help man I realy appreciate it. These cars are a bitch to mess with.
PS: one more question they sold me some antenna adapter and told me that I had to buy it cuz it needs it. It was only 10 bucks but do I realy need it??? 98cadenadeville 09-01-06, 12:39 AM METRA - GMRC03 - CADILLAC CLASS 2 DATA 97-04 DEVILLE SEVILLE

ATTENTION THIS DEVICE DOES NOT WORK! Well at least in my case it didn't. Half the time the unit cuts power to my CD player abruptly(it cuts all power) and half the time it doesn't even shut off, and the door chime sounds horrible. I tried two different units with the same result. I have the same car as you which came with only a tape deck, and it took me a few months to install an aftermarket stereo in this car. The installaion is not hard, but I ran into a sleep mode problem in which you lose all memory settings and nothing works until you turn the key to ON. The factory deck communicates with the car's computer so it must be hooked up no matter what. I made a custom wiring harness and moved the factory deck to above the rear wheel fender. I also ran my own power wire for the CD player...pretty much I separated my car stereo entirely from the car.
I know exactly how to install an aftermarket stereo in these cars if you also experience the sleep mode crisis. :bighead: CadillacSTS2003 09-02-06, 01:58 PM ahh yes i know what you speak of in rare cases you need to retain the old radio. they sell t harnesses for that stuff... 98cadenadeville 09-02-06, 05:29 PM Ok im confused now! So do I order that harness or not?? if not what exactly do I have to do CadillacSTS2003 09-02-06, 07:30 PM yes you need the harness. however some times you may have issues with it, it varries... weister42 09-06-06, 02:18 PM Hey if anyone is having problems with his car stereo in a 97~99 Deville, PM me and I can give you some pointers. chuckdobbins 09-10-06, 09:39 PM its not that difficult lol whats the big deal. dont use ANY harnesses, theres no room for any extra slack in the wires anyways. suck it up and hardwire the deck. i know it sounds risky, but once you cut out the original HU harness and start hardwiring...its the point of no return, quite a rush lol.
where did that chart go, showing the colors of the wires? i think it was for buicks AND cadillacs, it worked for me though.
only difference is that youll need to take your constant and switched power from your deck, and run that directly to the battery, just make sure you add another fuse to the wire though.
oh, and unless your front speakers are blown, you shouldnt need a replacement. i have the original front speakers in, NO back speakers and a pair of 12s...SQ is amazing. davidvo 11-09-07, 04:17 PM Hey if anyone is having problems with his car stereo in a 97~99 Deville, PM me and I can give you some pointers.
I have a 98 Deville (nice one)
I have a Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD pushing the stock door speakers, pioneer 6X9 in rear deck, and 2-15 Orion 2NT Subwoofers in trunk.
My car goes to sleep mode and now my taillights in cold weather will stay on.
I need help! My baby is sick.
Don't help me help my Baby! she is only 9 years old! CadillacSTS2003 11-09-07, 05:18 PM you need to run your own constant wire directly from the battery
the lamps have NOTHING to do with a radio swap... |
