I know I can't replace the bearings w/out replacing the entire hub assembly, but is it possible to re-pack them?

Not that you'd even want to repack them, because the bearing race can be scored or damaged. Reducing the performance of your brakes, hub, and bearing. CadillacSTS2003 08-28-06, 09:55 PM y not just buy a new one they arent that bad.. Mccalist 08-28-06, 10:05 PM just trying to get off cheap. It's not that there is any problem, I just thought at 100k it'd be a good idea. Oh well. Ranger 08-28-06, 10:34 PM If it ain't broke, don't fix it. They may go 200K. EDBSO 08-28-06, 11:11 PM I am certain that I read on Edmunds that they recommend repacking the bearings. I had to replace a bearing on a Reatta that was also "sealed' for life and I could have easily repacked them. If only I knew before hand. I suspect that the Cadi bearings are the same. I also like to overmaintain my cars. I can't find the reference in Edmonds now. ewill3rd 08-29-06, 07:24 AM They are sealed, don't do anything to them unless they go bad. Ranger 08-29-06, 10:58 AM The days of repacking or replacing a $20 wheel bearing are long gone. carnut 08-31-06, 02:54 PM I've used the hubs from front wheel drive cars for trailer axles. Mount a rear hub on an axle flange and good to go. No problem submerging in water (sealed) no need to ever repack! My experience when one fails, its caused from a side impact which can distort the race and cause bearing failure. | |
