I'm thinking about buying a CTS-V and wanted to know if it's worth buying the 06 vs the 05? Are all the rear diff issues with the 04 & 05 fixed with the 06? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Nope. There are still issues with the 06 rear diff. They do seem to be a little less severe though. The bigger question you should ask is whether you want the LS6 or the LS2.

The '06 differential is generally regarded as being much better than the '05 differential. That, however, doesn't guarantee that you won't have any problems with the '06 though.

All things equal, I would probably prefer the '06 CTS-V. But, much like others on this forum, I'd be chomping at the bit for a maggie, etc. Thank goodness the tuning software has finally come out.

Being a Chevy man from since I was a very young child, 350 all the way. The LS6 is the last, and IMHO the baddest of the 5.7's, the 05 is the last of the pack to offer this collector motor (exc. 05 GTO) and I got one in a Caddie! A real high tech collector ride. My .02- thanx now back to the thread....

what is the differece from the 06 to the 05 rear ends? is it the bushings? the gears? what is it? i talked to a guy today and he said he had the 05 and sold it and got the 06 and said he has no wheel hop....

The difference between the 05 and 06 differential is the case. The internals are the same for both years. Case was reinforced better, with more "ribs", in 06.

Although we haven't taken one apart the 2006 V does have some changes in the rear cradle mounting. The Spectre cradle bushings for 04 & 05 V's will not fit in the 06.

The aluminum ford 9" isnt dead believe it or not. Just slow as molasses. Kurt tells me that they are still working on it..

I have ZERO wheel hop in my '06.

My guess is that alone adds longevity to the rear diff.

No wheel hop here either, but I'm constantly throwing kitty litter on the garage floor to soak up the leaked diff fluid.

06 Doesn't grenade like the 05, but it whines like a SOB after 1000 miles. Most 05s have probably had the 06 diff installed under warranty once the 05 blew chunks all over the pavement.

Has anyone heard of one of these rears grenading?

Obviously there's a lot of posts about leakage and noise, but I've never seen a post about someone scattering their differential.
