View Full Version : Dash Board Help slade32 08-23-06, 11:09 AM I ahve an '03 escalade anI have a bit of a problem. I am pretty anal about keeping it clean. I have noticed over the past few months that the top of the dash pad that is the darker color, the spray vinyl or whatever the use to paint it is peeling off and exposing the black base. The dealerships are complete ***holes here in Southern New Jersey (KERBECK and Vallee & Bowe). I actually bought the truck at Vallee & Bowe. I took it to these 2 dealerships and neither will warranty it. The truck only has 30,000 miles on it. The one dealership told me that they would not do warranty on it due to the fact that I did not buy it from them. The second one told me that it was my fault and that I clean my truck TOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!! what is that. I did not know cleaning voids warranty. Called customer service and they did not do anything for me. Seems to be no recourse. What to do? How to fix? I love my truck but I will never buy another cadillac due to their service. Please help. Uria702 08-23-06, 04:59 PM try gold coast in oakhurst (monmouth county about 1 mile down state route 35 south of monmouth mall) exit 105 on the GSP, theyre great i had the same problem with my center console and theyre event he ones who brought it up and asked me if i want to have it changed (in for transmission replacement and a bunch of other mechanical problems). and they even gave me a loaner PONT-SHIT-IAC to use for the 2 weeks id be without the car. great dealership. wonderful to deal with and they have a enterprise on site. so it takes about 2 minutes to get a loaner and get out of there. jaycough 08-23-06, 08:13 PM the top is painted as you know now. the manual says to clean with water or light cleaner. not supposed to use vinyl protection on that. clean it off and bring it back if still under warranty. I had it fixed on my 2003 and 2005 suburbans without an issues. The dealer mentioned the armor-all on dash as no-no.
That is BS they won't fix if under warranty. you got to get the right person to speak to 05 Cadillac Escalade 08-23-06, 08:34 PM Perfect time for this thread because my center console is starting to peel, but I don't want to go through the hassle of having them replace it if it is going to be a long time. How long does it take them to do the whole process and does it involve me leaving my Escalade with them for an extended amount of time? I would have it covered under warranty and my dealership is excellent with providing me with everything I need.
Thanks. jaycough 08-23-06, 08:46 PM Perfect time for this thread because my center console is starting to peel, but I don't want to go through the hassle of having them replace it if it is going to be a long time. for me it took two days, as long as the paint shop is open. My dealerships have in-house body and paint shops 05 Cadillac Escalade 08-23-06, 09:00 PM for me it took two days, as long as the paint shop is open. My dealerships have in-house body and paint shops
Yeah, so does mine. They are very good with their work as well. They have done a bunch of jobs for me on my Escalade and everything has been done to perfection. I have to bring it in for a sunroof visor clip that I need so I will talk to them about the console when I am there.
Thanks. I clean mine a lot too and have had no problems, being in the car care business you have to be really careful what products you use, some of them really do more damage than their are worth ewill3rd 08-24-06, 08:01 AM Many finish enhancers like armor all will soak into the paint on the panel and cause it to bubble and peel off the plastic.
You should only use a mild cleaner and not apply finish enhancers. Reference your owner's manual for more info on how to clean stuff in your vehicle.
Many body shops can match the paint color and touch up the affected areas but it may not be possible to make it look right if you have been putting something on it. The repaired part might have a different look than the rest.
You are going to hear this a lot, GM didn't apply the cleaner or chemical you put on.
Warranty means they pay for something GM did, not something you did that GM didn't advise you to do.
That being said, it's not impossible that you could find a dealer that wants your business bad enough that they might warranty the part for you.
Be careful though, if you start raising heck in all the Cadi stores in your area they will start calling eachother and you won't even need to bother to go in to find out they won't help you. 05 Cadillac Escalade 08-24-06, 05:05 PM Ok, that makes sense, but on mine, I have not used any cleaners and it is really starting to peel. I have never used any chemicals or finishing cleaners on my Escalade interior. Wouldn't it be under warranty?
Thanks. ewill3rd 08-24-06, 08:23 PM I hate to say it but it's up to the dealer.
You can shop around until you find someone that might agree with your assessment and replace it.
Once they make up their mind to not cover it, it won't do much good to argue with them.
Make them feel like you are looking for a place to do your service business, if they think they'll get money out of you later, they might help you on a warranty item like that.
Many places will replace something like that one time and then warn you that next time, unless it's an obvious factory defect they won't cover it.
If you express to them that you use whatever is recommended in the manual to keep your car clean and ask them if they can help you out, they just may.
None of us can tell you if they will warranty it, lots of folks will tell you if they think it should be, but warranty isn't based on democracy.
It's based on whether or not the dealer thinks they can gain a profit from doing business with you and whether or not they think it's a real issue with the part not being manufactured correctly.
I have replaced a couple on a one time basis type of situation, but I have seen some that my manager declined also.
Best of luck to you.
HTH 05 Cadillac Escalade 08-24-06, 08:41 PM I'm a very good and loyal customer to my dealership and I have given them a bunch of business, if not all of it. They did the repairs after one of last years hurricane's did some damage to the outside of my car which cost me quite some money. I also purchased a bunch of accessories for my Escalade through the dealership and I am very close with a bunch of employee's at the dealership as well including a lot of the service guys. I just don't want to end up paying for this console when I don't do anything to it. I keep my car very clean to begin with so I don't need to wipe down the console at all and it just started cracking and peeling very recently. It's starting to become noticeable, which means I have to take care of it. I guess I will give it a shot next time I am in the dealership. I need to get in there soon to get the clip on my sunroof visor fixed, because whenever I open my sunroof all the way, the visor goes back and never comes back out when I close the sunroof which makes me stick my hand in the small little opening and pull the visor out myself. I will let you know how it goes. Is the whole center console thing a big job, because I don't want to take the risk of the dealership screwing something up in my car?
