: DDEC The cat ....

So , where I work we have a cat. Its named after the Detroit Diesel Electronic Controll or DDEC. Fairly nice cat , very fat. She was brought in years ago when we had a rat problem. Few years later and one big ass cat we have no rat problems. Nowdays DDEC spends her day loungeing around the shop laying on top of some of the most powerful diesel engines in the world. Sometimes will stop by begging for a quick pet or attentions. Even takeing a sip of antifreeze and somehow living thru it.

Every year we have a contest where i work , for a employee of the year type deal. Voted for by the employees. So yesterday i asked my boss who ended up winning the yearly award....He says "those smartasses elected that damn cat again."....Whats worse is its the second year in a row.

Coarse were supposed to have a company gathering for the award presntation if the winner was human. So monday im gonna see if my boss will go ahead and set up the get together so we can present DDEC the cat with the award. I figure if everyones gonna be a smartass , we might as well be too. I think ill have some pet tags made that say "employee of the year 2005,2006"....

I love my job .....This place is so much fun to work at and everyones got a cool sense of humor ...

16 years ago a kitten showed up at my office back door begging for food. It was August, 100 degrees and she was dying of thirst.

She's been in my lap every day since.

Funny this topic comes up. I took the day off yesterday and drove out to the Hamptons... on the way back, a cat jumped out and I slammed my breaks, but the poor cat was too close, and "thump thump" it was over. I've been feeling guilty/sad all day today and to distract myself I decided to cruise this forum. Boy was that a mistake.

My dad's friends yacht has two detroit diesels in it. I'll have to take a look at the model #s next time I'm on board. They are huge and massive but damn do they look pretty.

Funny you mention that Chad. I'm actually going out to see them tomorrow and install new ignition coils in both of them. We've gone the past two days, today with our mechanic friend and had no luck getting them started. We aren't getting any spark to the distributor and the points look brand new, so we picked up ignition coils on the way home. After I get the oil changed on my truck I'll be visiting them, equipped to get the job done.

The 59s need the ignition coils. The Detroit Diesels are in my dads friends yacht. I might be stopping by him on Thursday. If I do, I'll snap some pictures. If I don't get there this week, my dad is going on Saturday, when I head back to school, so I'll have him snap some pics.

At one point, my dad had 4  He bought all 4 in 1985, about a month before I was born. About 10 years ago his friend kept hounding him, so he sold him 2, keeping the Eldorado Biarritz and Fleetwood 60 Special for himself. My dad started out in the lumber business with his uncle and gradually switched over to real estate. He used to do a lot more hands on landlord like work, but now he's a little more relaxed. About 5 years ago he downsized, and sold most of his commercial property (about 22 buildings) and now focuses on residential stuff in the same area.

Detroit? :tisk:

Let me show a little CAT that is my baby.

That big silver thing is one of the exhaust pipes. The black elbow on the right is one of the air intakes. FFV? Hmm...

Quad turbo, V-24, 3500 Caterpillar hp hooked up to a torque converter and 7-speed automatic transmission.

Me on top of the engine...

When in Rome...Wish that was my daily attire; I hate dress shoes.

Was doing some data logging on the mining truck's engine and transmission. When I'm done out in the garage tonight I'll post a few more pics of the Tonka toys.
