Since i've had my 2001 Catera Sport for 4 months now, the rear driver side window has stopped about 3/4 way up and gone back down, like it should if something is blocking the window, but nothing is blocking it. I could always manually hold the window switch down and force it up......until today!!! I just had it rolled down, and it went about 3/4 up and started coming down again, and i manually forced it up with the switch like normal, but it slowed down and stopped about 3 inches from the top. It will go back down, but wont go up about 2-3 inches from the top of the window. It makes a weird clicking sound when it hits that spot, too. Anyone have any suggestions????? HELP!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!

Are you sure that nothing holds it? Does it move easy on the rails? I think your rails inside the door might be bended or durty so it's too tight to move freely. Did you try to take the door panel off and take a look? If you need a procedure for this I can post it for you.

PS Don't take me serious - just my $.02 ;)

I wouldnt mind the procedure. It goes down and up fine until it gets up to that certain point, then it goes really really hard and slow otherwise moves like normal and easily all other positions. Is it hard to take panels off and everything??? I would like the procedure if you got it, please. Thanks

I would agree. It sounds like its gummed up. Hopefully the motor isn't going out. I would avoid taxing the motor so you don't burn it up. If you just want to get it up, you can try having someone work the button while you 'assist' the window up - open the door, put one hand on each side of the glass and push up. Then leave it up until you have time to open the door panel.

Here (http://www.south-n-auto.com/reardoorpanel.zip) is the link to procedures. I allso included one called "Window Stop Bumper Replacement - Rear Door" - I don't know what's this and if it's related, but just in case... The windows switch and door light are both removed the same way - just pop them with flat head screwdriver.

I have the identical problem with my 2000 it still goes up however if the button is held. I don't think the problem is the stop bumper.

I'm guessing it is a failure of the mechanism. They made something out of plastic they should have made out of metal, hence the clicking.

Taking off the door panel is the only way. You need to see it operating and see what is happening when it fails.

Good luck.

Well, i just went out and saw there was a big strip of plastic hanging out from the inside of my window. I ripped that off, it was about 3-4inches long, and now it goes up and down like normal. It was just a ripped piece of plastic. Thanks for all the info
