Last Sept in San Deigo area, my 1998 DeVille engine gave up and a new long block was installed so I could continue my trip. (75,000 miles) The original engine required premium gas. This replacement does not.

The part number for the block is: 12667314 ENGCLD8GW

My Cad dealership at home (Indianapolis, IN) cannot give me an answer as to whether this replacement is like a later model Northstar or exactly the same as the original engine.

I have driven this engine some 14,000 miles now and it has me wondering about it. Can someone help? Thanks. Gene Hamilton

You can run whatever gas you want. I've run 87 in my 95 with no problems, however I do get 2 or 3 more mpg on 93. The increased mpg more then offsets the the extra cost, usually about 20 cents a gallon in my area.
