As some of you know from a previous thread (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/531150-post29.html), I'm a copywriter for an advertising agency. An article I wrote for one of our clients is published in the August issue of Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine. I’ve ghost-written articles for clients before, but this one has my byline. The online version is here:

I did one in a more obscure surveyor’s journal a couple of years ago. That one is online, too:

If you have a Palm Pilot or iPaq, and you work outside and need a handheld that's a bit tougher, check out the Recon (http://www.tdsway.com/products/recon) (shameless plug for my client).

Happy reading.

I actually DO need that info. It's related to a project I'm hoping to pursue before the end of the year. Thanks!

Cool! I received an e-mail yesterday from a reseller in the UK who works with police departments there wanting more information. Fortunately, we have a White Paper on total cost of ownership that our PR account executive sent off to him.

The Recon really is a cool product (and I'm not just saying that because I'm a paid shill).

I'm in print as well. My work can be seen on bathroom walls across the country.

Congrats!

I've published articles few myself, and was just commissioned to write a book.Makes you feel good to see your words in print doesn't it? Yeah, it does. I started writing short stories in elementary school, got involved in the school paper in junior high, high school and college, but a part time job at the local newspaper—writing obituaries—showed me I did not want to be a newspaper reporter.

I discovered advertising by accident in the college catalog, and it appeared to be a decent way to make a living as a writer. I had no desire to be a starving artist.

About 12 years ago, I helped a colleague write a book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0672303973/sr=8-1/qid=1154041552/ref=sr_1_1/104-3103991-5111914?ie=UTF8) on the then emerging field of computer art. Mostly, my job involved trying to make sense of his rambling tape recordings and turning them into something readable. Certainly not my best work, but the money I earned from the job paid for the landscaping job at my then new house.

I'm in print as well. My work can be seen on bathroom walls across the country.:histeric::histeric::histeric::histeric:I' m a lousy bathroom poet.

Hey just think Gary, somebody paid money to read what you had to say! How awesome is that?! I thought about being a writer for a career, but as you can most likely tell, my grammer sucks.

Can't say much for your spelling either! :histeric:The rule I was told, which helped me remember how to spell it, is "your gramma is always correcting your grammar."

In a wierd kind of way I do the same thing. I write web applications for an aerospace company. Hundreds of users work in them. I can take some liberty in the style and layout. I've added some patriotic graphics. I have funny things that only happen when certain acquaintences of mine access them.
It's rewarding in a nerdy sort of way.:food-snacking:
