I mentioned acouple of weeks ago I was getting a 05 3.6 CTS, the home equity line is taking longer than expected...I went to the dealer (not Cadillac) to look at my baby. My question is that it has traction control in the glove box , but what are the "s" and "*" button by the automatic shifter for ? Was so excited that I forgot to ask the salesman.:)

S is for the sport mode of the Transmission
* is for the Snow mode
Sets the computer to change the way the Transmission shifts for your driving needs.... pretty awesome toys.

Also, in the Snow mode the car I believe starts off in 3rd gear, instead of first.

that's right -- be careful with pulling out into traffic in the * mode

Holds the transmission in the gear longer. Read your owners manual :P since he doesn't own the car yet and its not in his driveway, might be hard to go look at his manual :P
S mode also firms up the shifts. Winter mode also has some other programs at work, like Shift Stabilization and Downhil Grade Detection.
ALso, you can set the traction control to the quick set on your display panel...I do so its a lot easier to take it off :)
