just wondering if these cars have sensors on the headlights that prevent you from turning them on in the daytime.
When I try turning them on in the daytime they wont come on but at night they come on when turned on.
Also if the motor is not running they wont come on

There is a light sensor in the defroster grill (the flat one, not the domed one) for the twighlight sentinal, but it does not prevent you from using the switch to override it during the day. Maybe you have a bad switch. When they are on at night is it with twightlight sentinal or the manual switch?

it is with the sliding switch that says twilight sentinel underneath it.
they work fine at night but wont come on in the day even when i manually switch them on.
the manual switch which is a button controls the foglights.

Then I would suspect the manual switch is bad.

That's as it should be. The Sentinel will not activate the lights during daylight, but rather, only after twilight.

Let's forget the fog lamps for the moment . . . .

Are you suggesting that when you pull the headlamp knob towards you there is no effect? When you rotate it do your dash lamps brighten/dim?

when i turn on the dash light control clockwise until it clicks the dome lights turn on and when i pull it straight out they also turn on so there is no problem with that switch.
Now sliding switch that controls the headlights is what is bugging me.
For instance, i'll be behind a car that i can see a reflection of my car in, ill slide the headlight switch to the right as to turn on the headlights, in the daytime mind you, and they wont come on.
at night they turn on like they should, high beams work and everything.
Now today something funny happened.
I slid that same headlight switch to the right about 3/4 of what it would go, and the headlights came on, in the daytime.
so i switched them back off and slid the switch to the right again to turn them on and they came on again, in the daytime.
Now when im behind these cars that i can see my car in i must not have been sliding that swich all the way to the right past the twilight sentinel setting.
Im going to try it next time im behind another car and see what happens, ill keep you all posted as to what occurs.
thank you very much for you guy's input.
later

could it be the sensor?

Wait a minute. The slide switch is for the twighlight sentinal. Sliding it to the right arms the system, but during the day, the sensor reads daylight and does not turn the lights on. Pulling the manual switch is supposed to override the twightlight system and turn the lights on anytime, day or night. If you can turn the lights on with the slide switch during the day, then I'd suspect a bad light sensor.

you're absolutely right.
my fault.
ok so I pulled the headlight switch all the way out and wallah, the headlights magically turned on, in the daytime. the sliding switch doesnt turn the lights on in the daytime, so theres no problem with it.
ok, got it, good! Thanks for responding Ranger and Warren.
