View Full Version : GM/Nissan/Renault consider partnership black93sts 06-30-06, 05:26 PM http://www.forbes.com/business/2006/06/30/gm-nissan-kerkorian-cx_kt_0630autos.html
Looks like GM might team up with Nissan and Renault so they can all share parts and platforms like Chrysler/Mitsubishi did. What do you guys think?
Personally, the thought of a CTS with a Nissan VQ engine in it makes me drool:worship: 90Brougham350 06-30-06, 05:29 PM Lose Renault and you might have something there, as long as Nissan remembers they can't build a full-size truck for shit, and the V family is supreme! I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-30-06, 05:31 PM I voted yes. I mean look what the partnership with Renault did for Nissan! Thank you Mr. Ghosn!
Brian, whats wrong with the Titan? It's one of the few foreign trucks I really like. Wayy better than the Ridgeline and better than the Tundra. Titan's a pretty nice rig, but Renault is lame. Since Ghosn, Nissan's quality control has gone to the crapper, and they emphasize style over engineering. Recipe for failure. Sounds like 90s Chrysler. I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-30-06, 05:38 PM True, but after Ghosn, their styles have gotten much more "out there" and they have gotten a lot more sales due in part to this. I mean, compare the '96 Maxima to the '06 Maxima. It's hard to believe they're both Nissans.
Nissan is pushing style pretty hard, but their engineering isn't falling back. They for the most part are much more reliable cars than the '90s Chryslers. Chrysler really lost it in about '81 or so, and they kinda dragged all their problems thru until about '98 or so, before the merger with Daimler Mercedes. The VK45 is a piece of crap, not as bad as the Northstar, but notorious for consuming oil and wearing out early on. Plenty of power, at the expense of longevity and durability.
New Nissan is blah. My Q45 marks the moment they peaked. I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-30-06, 06:52 PM My Q45 marks the moment they peaked.
Engineering or styling wise? Blackout 06-30-06, 07:13 PM House is the Titan lame? Out of all the trucks in its class it is the leader in damn near every catagory. 9000 lbs towing capacity, its the fastest truck in the class, has the most standard horsepower, etc. The Titan still suffers from build quality issues and doesnt offer enough configurations for professional truck buyers. Otherwise its darn good.
Blackout: Engineering.
The el***go ricer tails on the Altima are a low for styling, but I like the looks of the 350Z and all the trucks. I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-30-06, 07:46 PM I really really like the Titan. It's a very tough choice between a Titan LE 4x4 Crewcab and a F-150 Lariat 4x4 crewcab. gothicaleigh 06-30-06, 07:59 PM This could work... the G35 does resemble a very round CTS after all... :p
I would prefer that GM strengthen it's ties with BMW (unlikely though, seeing that company's recent ad campaign) or Honda. What they need help with is their small engines/vehicles, and those two are masters of that. GM-Honda versus Toyota? Girl, thats so crazy it could work! This is a proposal by the largest GM shareholder - Kerkorian's Tracinda. I think it took both GM and Nissan / Renault by surprise. From what I read, it's supposed to be some type of joint operating agreement, not a buyout. GM has tried this recently and failed miserably - Fiat, Fuji/Subaru, and Suzuki. elwesso 07-01-06, 10:05 AM Im not sure, but as long as I have no nissans with American engines I'll be happy...
I would say that build quality isnt really crappy, its just not what it used to be. IMO its still ahead of a lot of other cars... Nissan is making some stellar engines and transmissions...
The VK45 isnt as bad as people think, plus they redesigned it for the 06 FX/M45/Q45 so it doesnt consume as much oil... its only been out for 4 years now, and still very few failures... Its still no VH45 thats for sure..
The thought of a G35 coupe coming standard with an LS6 sure does sound nice... :) noahsdad 07-01-06, 10:15 AM If this happens, I'm switching to Ford.
But it's not likely to be real. Kerkorian was behind the whoring out of Chrysler to Daimler Benz, but that was all done very quietly in the initial stages. Just the fact that he made this announcement publicly tells me there's no real deal in the works. Kirk the Jerk just wants Honda/Toyota to know there's room for discussion.
The guy is a f$#king corporate raider snake. 90Brougham350 07-01-06, 10:33 AM Pickups are America's vehicle. If you only wanna buy a truck because of how many HP it has, then buy a Titan. It's none of my business, but were I to buy a pickup, I would buy a Ford or a Chevy, both brands that have been building reliable, time-proven pickups for decades. Plus, I couldn't swallow the idea of driving a foreign pickup. It just doesn't seem right. General Motors Statement Regarding Tracinda's Filing
DETROIT - General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) has received no offer or proposal from Renault/Nissan with respect to its participating in the Renault/Nissan Alliance, as suggested in the 13-D Filing made today by the Tracinda Corporation. The Tracinda request will be taken under advisement by the GM Board of Directors. At this time, we have no further comment.

exactly. hmm, i wonder why every single landscaping company has fords or chevys, and sometime dodges but you NEVER see a foreign landscaping truck. maybe that says something I~LUV~Caddys8792 07-06-06, 11:45 AM Lets see here, what are the positives and negatives of this deal? Remember, HP sells vehicles, Torque MOVES MOUNTAINS. But more and more engines are camming up to make higher hp numbers to make sales, but in reality, they aren't able to perform like the torque monsters like the 8100 V8 that can yank 16000 lbs behind it. I'd be willing to bet the US will NEVER see a passenger car/truck from Japan ever do that. Not without a GM/Ford/Dodge engine in the bay....
GM should have bought out Toyota when they had the chance....

That would have been absolutly insane! When did they have the chance? When they had money...
I don't know for sure, but did Toyota ever go public? For a long while they were still privately held, or a substantial % of the stock still was private.
Toyota has a lot of strong family ties for suppliers, they are tight knit and don't let many people in....
