I recently became the owner of a 1999 deville with 56K on the clock. The question I have is what type of pads are recomended when changing brake pads.
There are metallic, semi-metallic and ceramic and perhaps others. I know there are form members with opinions as to which is the best.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to the responces.
Thanks

One thing I've noticed with my '97 Deville is that there appears to be an inordinate amount of brake dust to clean off the rims when the car gets it's weekly bath - so when this baby needs new pads, i'm going to spring for ceramic!

What kind of driver are you? Agressive? Casual?
Personal preferences? Quiet? Dustless? Cost?
I put set of Raybestos QUIET STOP™ (http://www.raybestos.com/usa/brakepads.htm) on my towing van. They are ceramic and have no breakin period. They create minimum dust, quiet, stop well even with a 26' sailboat behind me and they are reasonably priced. I'd probably use them on my STS but they don't list any. Your Deville is covered.

I have always professed the quality of Raybestos QS pads. I have been using them religously for many years. Recently, I purchased a set of slotted and drilled rotors from Ebay (R1Concepts) and front and rear sets of AC Delco ceramic pads from www.rockauto.com. So far the new combo is working great. I notice less dust from the AC Delco's, than the Raybestos. The new rotors and pads stop better than before. This car of mine is a brake nightmare. I have gone through alot of braking issues, new rotors (twice), new pads (twice), rotors cut (several times). Just trying to get a brake set-up that will perform the same, 10k miles after the install, as when the install is done. So far I have been out of luck.

Ditto - ceramic pads.... no brake dust.
I have had them on for about a year. Very little or no dust. I wish I could say the same for the 06, This car is driven very little and the dust is terrible.

Recommended by GM? Semi metalic. Keep in mind that ceramics don't disipate heat as well as semi metalic.
