Sorted the oil change on the '94 Fleetwood yesterday. Got oil coming out the front crank seal on the LT1 motor. How do I replace the seal. Looks like getting the harmonic balancer off will be no fun.
Is there a tech tip/ any ideas?
I'd replace the seal for the water pump drive as well while you are at it:
In fact, it may be leaking from there or the opti drive as well and dripping down the front of the timing cover, giving you the impression the bottom seal (crank) is the leaker.
These links below are for a Camaro, but the procedure is basically the same for balancer & hub removal. The hub is tricky, I've done it a bunch of times and it never seems to go completely smooth. You need a puller tool along with varying lengths of bolts that the puller will "push" against after the crank snout bolt is removed. The bolts need to be slightly smaller in diameter than the crank bolt so that they do not thread in, yet still thick enough so they are tough and do not bend when the puller "pushes" against them.

Replaced the seal. It all went well and no leaks so far. I think it was the crank seal and not the other one.

Great to hear! I hope the crank hub removal and reinstallation went smoothly. That part always give me fits even though I know exactly what I am doing.
