I’m shopping around for an ’07 Escalade. I plan on doing a 39 month, 10K mile per year lease with $5K down. The vehicle I was quoted for was Black Raven/Cashmere and included climate package, 2nd row seat power release & power sliding sunroof. Price was $59,325.00. I tried knocking some money off the MSRP, but the dealer doesn’t want to budge because he says it’s a new body style. I’m trading in my current car (2005 BMW M3) and I think that’s hurting me a little bit. I’m breaking even on my trade-in so there is no negative equity is being rolled into the new lease. The monthly payment for the Escalade is $787.00. Do you guys think this is fair? What are you paying (if you don’t mind) and what was the price of your vehicle? Thanks.

The thing to do is compare. If the dealer will tell you the residual and money factor, then you have a basis for comparison.

This is a lease calculator that lets you play with "what ifs".

http://www.edmunds.com/apps/calc/CalculatorController

Also, this web-site is a lease search portal, that provides some quick-quotes from competing lease providers.

http://www.leasecompare.com/

The thing about dealers is that they can do creative things to make money for themselves, when they know you are only interested in the monthly payment.

You best bet is to know what the pain would be when buying, using a conventional loan, with competitive interest rate, and then look at the lease.

I don't know how you guys are getting these for so cheap. I got a few quotes at over $900.00 per month for a $60K Escalade with $5K down! The best I got so far was $787.00! I'm ready to give up. I'm trying to negotiate very hard too. I'm looking for a 39 month, $5K down, 10,000 mile per year lease.

You'll need to know/have the following info in order to determine whether you think your monthly lease payment is too high:

Cap Cost Reduction: this is how much the vehicle will cost once you've negotiated selling price minus any down payment and/or trade-in value. I assume that when you say "breaking even" on your trade-in, you mean that what you still owe on your BMW is equal to what the dealer says your BMW is worth; if so, then your trade-in value for purposes of lease calculation is $0. Since you stated that the dealer wasn't gonna budge on the selling price of the Esky, and you were planning to put down $5K (not really a good idea to put down any money other than what is required at lease signing 'cuz if your ride is somehow stolen or totalled--that's $5K down the drain; however, I understand that a down payment will help lower monthly lease payments--you'll need to weigh this vs. the concern I just mentioned...especially considering that the Esky is the most-stolen vehicle in the U.S.), your CCR would be $54325.

Residual value (based on 39-month/10K mile lease): dealer should be able to provide this figure;

Money Factor: similar to interest rate; dealer should be able to provide this info also. Obviously the lower the MF, the lower your monthly payment--how low (or high) a MF you get will be based for the most part on your credit history.

Term: length of lease...in your case, 39 months

Plugging all of the above figures into any of the lease payment calculators mentioned in this thread, you'll be able to determine what the approximate lease monthly payment will be. I say approximate because many of these calculators don't take into account your state/local sales tax (unless you live in a non-sales tax state like Oregon); you will be required to pay sales tax on the two components that make up a monthly lease payment--the monthly depreciation fee, and the monthly finance fee.

There could be many reasons why some folks wound up w/ $600 monthly lease payments--maybe they didn't get a fully-loaded Esky (a less-than-fully loaded Esky will result in a lower net cap cost), they got a lot for their trade-in, put down a somewhat-sizeable cash downpayment, lower MF. The residual value would not affect how much of a monthly payment one person gets when compared to that of another person since the buyer more or less has little power in negotiating it.

I know--TMI...but don't think you're absolutely getting screwed on your monthly lease payment just because someone else has a lower payment--w/o knowing the exact terms and numbers of their lease deal, you don't really know if you're getting reamed.

Thanks for all the info. I still haven't found a deal that I'm happy with, so for now I'm keeping the M3. Not the worst thing that could happen to me I guess. I only have 17 months left on the lease. The car is great, just a little bumpy and uncomfortable. It’s hard to get in and out of too. I also seem to have a heavy foot. Heavy foot + M3 + NYC = VERY BAD. Thanks for your help and explanation.

6 speed manual.

I am guessing that is why it is so annoying. A good friend of mine has an M3 in NYC as well and he bought his SMG after owning a Porsche Boxster in Manual for a couple of years. He says he was sick of shifting every two seconds while driving around the city making him move to the SMG transmission. He loves his car, but also says it is a little bumpy. Any particular reason you are jumping for a 2007 over another BMW? By the way, thanks for the quick response.

Thanks.

The constant shifting + bumpy ride definitely has a lot to do with it. It actually makes me not want to drive my car at all. When I'm in a particular mood (not tired) I enjoy the car though.

I'd love to get into another BMW, but after owning an M3, the only other models that I like are M5's & M6's. Both are out of my price range. Besides, both the M5 and M6 are marked up AT LEAST $10K right now since they're still "HOT".

Agreed. I particularly love the M3, M5, M6, & X5 (4.8is only). I am a big BMW fan and was actually going to get the M3 instead of my Escalade, but at the last minute, I took the Escalade. I can't say I regret my decision, but there are definitly times when I wish I had the speed and agility of a M3. I am probably going to look into a M6 in about a year when the price goes down a bit. It isn't in my price range as of now either, but it is a beautiful car.

Thanks.

Wow! It's beautiful. I am jealous. Are you only looking into the 2007? Here are some pictures of my 2005 Escalade.

Thanks.

Very nice! Diamond White looks awesome. The pics are small and hard to see though. I can't see the monitors too good.

I love all Escalades but I'd prefer to get into a brand new one.

Thanks man! Yeah, the new 2007's are pretty sweet. I don't know if I like the exterior as much as my 2002 - 2006 model, but the interior and the mechanics are definitly an improvement. I'm obsessed with the fact that it has 403 horsepower. Haha! I could have some fun with that.

Thanks.

I heard on the news this morning that Chrysler will be bringing back their employee discount program next month...and that there are some serious price wars expected this summer due to high inventories. With that in mind, you might save some serious cash by waiting a month or two. GM/Cadi would probably do the same if Chrysler starts those discounts again. Who knows, they might just include the Escalades on the discounts again like last year.

That would be awesome. I would definitly get a new 2007 if I could get it for a steal. I'm not going to get my hopes up, but I am a little excited.

Thanks.

You guys in the states get a huge deal on the escalades.

The MSRP on an '07 Escalade ESV in Canada is $93,310.00 cdn, if I cross into Buffalo the same rig can be bought MSRP for $71,000.00 cdn.

Its about a 17% savings if you count the currency difference at 10%, but the red tape is too long to actually get one back and make the savings.

In 2004 i bought a 2003 ext that was a demo with 3,000 miles on it for 41,500 and my payment was 700.00 and i put only 1,000 down your better off buying instead of leasing..unless you like changing cars

I was just talking to my father and he said it is pretty fair price. If you need any more help I'll ask him. He is a salesmanager at Cadillac.
