the brochure on line for the 06 sts shows the epa ratings for the 6 as 18/27, rather than the 17/24 listed in edmunds...i wouldn't think that they changed the rear end ratio but something's up.

Maybe GM and the Cadillac division are "playing" with the numbers?

yeah...that would be my first geuss...but it's possible that the rwd version of the sts6 went to the 3.23's rather than the 3.42's found in the 05's. in some ways it makes sense: they could advertise the "performance" aspect of the 05's with the shorter rear end and then tout the "greater" fuel economy for
06 and not mention that the acceleration times dropped off. i did send off an email to gm for an answer....we'll see

did some research via google and from a couple of different sources (reliability unknown) the final drive is 3:42 on the 06.

another possiblity and this is a long one, is the use of mobil 1 versus standard type oil.i do find it hard to believe that the use of a synthetic oil would make that much of a difference...must be that ole' smoke and mirror hat trick...

I have the build sheet for my 06 sts4 with the 1SC package and it lists the rear ratio as 3.23. The build code is GU5

mine will be the 2wd version of the v6 sts. the awd version comes with the 3.23's and even with the taller gears, the awd version posts lower numbers, epa wise, than the 2wd with the 3.42's, for the 06 model....

Also, didn't the EPA just change the way they test milage? I seem to remember reading this somewhere, and that many automakers would have to post different (lower) numbers on many vehicles.

i do seem to recall some articles regarding the epa testing procedure and trying to make them more "real world" in terms of the actual numbers. something has obviously changed and i doubt that it's anything to do with the drivetrain...
