Hello,

I just found this forum and I think it is awesome. I do have a question that I am hoping someone will be able to help me with.

I am trying to figure out which radio I have in my CTS so that I can determine what the options I have with regard to satellite radio. I just bought this car about 4 months ago and I want to do something.

I have read that Cadillac was going to start putting Xm in all 2003 vehicles, but I know mine does not have it.

I need to figure out which radio I have so I can figure if there is a way I can do an aux in install or something of that nature so that I do not have to do the wireless FM transmitter route.

My radio has the cd and tape option. No cd changer.

I currently use the tep player for satellite radio, but I do not like the cord hanging down in front of the radio.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Have a great day
Doug

Check out "radios and more". I think they make XM and Sirius adapters.

Some of the audio nerds will be along to help you (more than I can) shortly.

You need an XM satellite ready radio for the radios and more kit to work. Unfortunately, none of the 2003 models were XM ready unless you ordered it from the factory with XM radio.

An alternative would be to find a radio from a junkyard or eBay that has the new firmware that's XM ready and then by the radios and more XM kit.

Does that mean that I can try to find a 2004 radio and put in the 2003 CTS or find a 2003 CTS with a radio that was factory installed XM and put that in?

Thank you both for your help
I look forward to hearing the next responses.
Have a great night

Some 2004 radios aren't XM ready either. All 2005 radios are though.

The only 2003 radios that were XM ready were the Nav radios. Even with that said, not all of the Nav's were XM ready :bonkers:

Zman,

Any newer radio will retrofit to your 2003. They're plug 'n play (except for the Nav, which will require a single VSS wire to be installed). You'll need to have the VIN cleared at a dealer to get rid of the 'theflock', though. Be aware of the two colors of dashes in 2003's, though. If you have the pewter dash (pre-summer '02 cars) like me, you'll have to swap the faceplates. If you've got a black dash car, nothing else is required.

You can either install a Radios and More kit, or I wrote up in the FAQ how to make your own, using a generic GM XM kit. Basically it involves cutting off the generic GM harness, and splicing (tapping) six wires into your factory harness. Why? Well, if you're someone handy with electronics, you can save over $100 from the CTS specific kit.
