: Amplifer in a '90 brougham...where is it??

I've concluded that the static in my radio of my 1990 Brougham comes from a bad amp, and I've found one on eBay to replace it, but where is it in the car? Underneath the head unit is a plastic box with a circuit board inside, so I know that's not it. I'm looking for this big thing:

I want to double check in my car, before I buy. Thanks.

Well, the control box, as it's called (it isn't really an amp) is actually in the dash. It's above and to the right of the gas pedal. If you take the radio out, you can put a trouble light in the car and trace the wires and see a little of it through the hole. To get to it you take the hush panels off the bottom of the dash and go from there. It's not too hard to get to, and it's not too hard to find either. Good luck! If you need more help, I can post the page from the service manual.

Before you go that far, try plugging another (any) antenna into the amp/controller. I thought the same as you, and replaced my radio, only to find the new one wouldn't tune in any channels either - the culprit was the antenna.

Does anyone have a drawing/schematic to look at for the amp/radio? 90Brougham350, you mentioned you had a service manual to upload?? Anyway, I'm going to install a Buick radio with an amp built-in, and I need to get to the amp so I can plug its wires (speakers, and antenna) directly into the head unit?

I am having a horrible time getting to the amp itself, and have hardly a clue as to where the wires come and go. Someone please help.

Sure, I'll have the pictures uploaded tomorrow afternoon, unless someone else does it first!

Thanks for the help - it will put an end to my frustration (hopefully)!

Alright, you'll have to rotate them, and if you're on a 56k, I apologize. Good luck! If you need more, let me know.

Now that I know where it is, maybe someone can help me with my other dilemna in this other thread: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/rwd-19xx-1985-deville-fleetwood-1985/79281-speaker-wires-80-92-fwb.html
