What should be used to clean the NAV touchscreen? Is there a cleaner or just mild soap and water?

Like most things in life, "Less is More" ie; go with the mildest solution you can get away with and then work up from there, if you're not getting results.

I'd start with just warm water and if that didn't do it, then the old standby vinegar/water trick and if that didn't work, then move on up to glass cleaners.

But a BIG CAVEAT on that one - I would NEVER spray that stuff directly onto the screen. God only knows where some of that stuff could end up and if it got through one of the cracks in the plastic panels and into the "guts" of the unit, it could do a goodly amount of damage. IMO.

Instead I would spray the cleaner on a soft, clean rag or MF towel and then go over the screen that way. And I'd make damn sure I got it all off afterwards and ended up with a bone dry unit.

I use a plain paper towel and normal window cleaner.

I spray to solution onto the paper towel and then wipe GENTLY. Keep wiping until bone dry.

There's a great product called iClean. It's made by MonsterCable and you can get it in many electronic stores. It's the best I've found for cleaning those. It's a thick spray that you can spray right on the screen and it won't drip. It comes with a special towel to wipe and it has worked best so far. The problem I've had with glass cleaners is that over time they create a haze on the screen.

Acetone will do wonders

And I hope you know that I'm not being serious :D

I use a product called "Opti-Max" for the LCD screen.

It works great! It seems to be comparable to a very very low power eyeglass cleaner. I've used it on my glasses, and it doesn't work as well as my usual glasses cleaner. But for the LCD screen, which just gets finger smudges, they come right out.

how dirty can your nav be to use all these cleaners and what not?? Ive simply used a damp rag for the past several years and it works fine. Cleaning the nav screen is not that deep.

after watching a video on the internet on what window cleaner(ie:windex) products can do to your lcd, plsma tv's and comp screens. i use a mild dish soap and a microfiber glass cloth. the crystals solidify in side of the fram of whatever you spray and ruin it. i'm even affraid to just spray that stuff on a cloth now.
out!

Is there a protective film cover you can put on the screen? Like the ones they sell for PDA's and phones?

A damp towel will work great, good microfiber as well.

Go to an eyeglasses store and get an eyeglasses cleaning kit. It should have a little spray bottle of lens cleaner (good for your glasses and home computer screen) and a small microfiber cloth. Put the cloth in one of your cup holders in the car and that way it will be handy. The spray – take it to your desk at work or home. When your screen gets a few fingerprints or is dusty, give the screen a light wipe with the microfiber cloth. Never spray anything on the screen directly. Ever, never. :tisk:

It should handle all this, unless y’all is eating greasy chicken wings and tater chips and really smearing the screen with your nasty, grease digits.:ack:

When you wash the car, as you finish detailing the jambs and dash, use a damp clean cloth that has been dipped in the car wash bucket and wrung almost dry, and give the screen and other plastic covers a clean wiping. If you have a water spot issue, hit it with the microfiber cloth.:sunnynana:

Nice and clean. :)
