Hiya.

Obviously I am new. I am 21, and love cars. My priority in cars is one that is comfortable. Everything else comes after that for me. In 1994 my grandfather bought a 1991 Deville. I knew then that I liked Caddies. The car has now been replaced with a 2000 LeSabre, and that is my gauge for cars. I will be purchasing a new (to me) car sometime within the next year. I am looking to spend around 15k, and I am joining chat forums that have cars that I like in that range. I have noticed several Seville STS's that can be had around that price. I am also looking into Lexus, BMW, and a few Lincolns.

Welcome aboard, Revrend! Thanks for signing up! Well, $15k is certainly enough to buy a nice STS. A BMW would be a bit hard to find something good - as well as a Lexus. Cadillacs do depreciate quickly - it's all about supply and demand... A Lincoln?? Ahh, which one do ya like? The LS? Yes, it IS a nice car. Lincolns are cool - they just lack the power of Caddy's - most of them, anyway..

Yea, the Lexus doesn't show much in that range...but it happens. I have a soft spot for their GS and SC series.

The BMW...you would be surprised. I have spent a lot of time on their chat boards and doing research, I can pick up a 95ish 3 series with 75kish miles for around 15, and we have a local 530i with 75k miles for 15 as well...

As to the Lincolns...mainly the Mark VIII, I would love a black one, slightly lowered, with some anthracite wheels and a nice tint job. They have a slick look to them.

BMW and Caddy are the ones that really are on the top of my list.

Don't rule out a pre-2000 Mercedes S420. Sweet riding, powerful vehicle. The interior holds up extremely well, as does the engine and tranny. You can probably find one with less than 80,000 miles on it for under $20K

thats not easy to do. The Mark VIII has an airbag suspension which lowers and inch automaticly above 50 MPH. To lower the car you need to take out the air ride and put in lowering springs. Although, lowering springs for 89-97 tbirds and cougars swap right in there.

Can you make it just stay that inch lower at all times?

Ya know...for some reason...Mercedes have never really appealed to me. I will certainly keep it in mind though, and I will test drive a few if they are around when I am in the hunt.

I guess part of it is the german factor. While I know both the Mercedes and BMW are known to be well made, they also do have problems, and their problems aren't exactly cheap. I happen to know a guy that used to be a Porsche/BMW mechanic. I figure if I go BMW, I could always have him check it oot. If I stick with a Caddy, I won't have the heinous repair charges, and I do have people that can help me fix these cars (buddy that is a mechanic at a Chevy dealership to get part deals too) The Lexus...yea, I probably won't get one of those. I love me some GS, but I don't think I would actually end up in one.

The girlfriend says a Jeep Grand Cherokee might "get me some" I told her if that is how I am going to rate the vehicles, I won't pick one till I find a car that will get me two at once...

there is an easier way to lower the MarkVIII. You need to move the height sensors up 1 1/2 inches (one on each corner)and you got that nice simple drop and still keep the air ride.

Hi there, glad to see a youngin' not into the Fast and Furious, rice-grinding, short-lived fad crowd. Is MO Montana? That is nice country, I was down there in '79.

Two at once! That would be a good deal! :D

The only bad thing about the Lexus GS is - everybody has one. Everybody has a GS300... I see a lot more GS's than STS's...

Yup, I live in Kansas City Missouri. I happen to know a guy with the same first and last name as myself, that grew up in Montana...that has been interesting. We worked together for a while.

Nope, don't REALLY do the fast and the furious thing. I like all cars really. I like to think I am a true enthusiast. I will give credit where credit is due. Every car has its purpose. When I list my order of car criteria, it is luxory, then handling, then speed. I have certainly attended my share of stoplight drags, but I wouldn't race in them. Maybe just an occasional light to light romp, but I don't go out seeking it. I actually ran an automotive performance part company for a while. I do love my imports, I do love my luxory. You aren't going to find a Honda that gives the ride of a Caddy ( =

However, I have been doing some research since you guys mentioned how easy it was to lower the Mark VIII...you weren't kidding! I already found a step by step for it.

As to the GS...yea yea, I know...we have a lot of everything where I live. If it costs under 60k, there are a ton of them. I see a lot of GS400's even. As well as BMW 740's, brand new caddies all over.

I do like the STS, what kind of mods to people do to them?

Saw a kid today, hat on backwards, 4 door civic, gigundis rear spoiler, just about had an accident laughing so hard when the light turned green.

When I read how easy it was to lower the Mark 8, I wanted one so bad!!!
But I got over it...kind of :basketcas
