Scott , Lakeland,FL '01CateraSport 08-09-06, 01:42 PM I got an '01 Catera Sport w/ 64,000 miles on now. I bought it as a manufacturer's recall, and have never had a problem with it in 12,000 miles, so hopefully it stays this way. I love it eddison84 08-23-06, 08:15 AM I'm from Finland and i own a '96 omega MV6. some little tune-up with Lexmaul exhaust..about 150000miles driven..:worship:
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l206/eddison84/DSC00947.jpg phillgifts 08-26-06, 08:25 PM I own a 2001. Replaced the tranny at 60,000. I now have to replace the valve cover gaskets. GM tech tells me I should replace the timing belt and Cateras are known for belt going bad. Anyone have problems like this? Shawn McGill 10-15-06, 12:02 AM Well, better late, etc. I own a 2000 Catera and have enjoyed it since 2003. Got it with 18k miles on it and a good warranty. Nothing really major has happened, some of the gadgets have problems: rear sunshade replaced at least 3 times. Now have 70k miles on it and the warranty just expired.... I am curious how some of you are doing in the higher mileages.
Met a man in Harrisburg, PA recently who still has a '97 from new and intends to keep it... retired older gent.
Anyway hope some of you see this and share. FM-IN-MI 10-15-06, 11:05 AM How many in this Cadillac forum own a Catera (or Omega for that matter) ?
We just purchased a 2000 Cat for my son as his first car. We bought it at a dealership in Lansing for a little over $3600 w/tax/plates/etc. It has 105K but several major problems that we knew about, including leaking valve covers, cracked front window, and bad rear shocks. We replaced the front window ($180), put on new Monroe air shocks ($70), got the Delco battery replaced (was under warranty so it was replaced for the 2nd time for free) and did some minor other fixes. We were lucky enough to find out who the original owner was and she passed us all the service bills -- over $4800 in the past 3 years (new heater core, heater control valve, 2 alternators, tie rods, water pump, oil pressure and crank sensor, and 2 sets of pads/rotors).
We are currently tackling a previously unknown heating problem (unknown cost) and the leaking valve covers ($38). This forum has been extremely helpful to this new comer and we have already been able to help another person tackle a front door problem (that we just completed), which is how forums survive. I would not let the lack of replies to your posting dissuade you from asking questions or (and more importantly) helping others if you have insight into a given problem.
We hope that once the above is complete, he will have a very nice looking, safe and dependable car to take to college in a few years.
Take care.
Frank in Michigan Zakiya06 10-17-06, 01:52 PM Hey,
I purchased a used 97 catera in feb of this year. It had 84000 miles. I will have to say that this is a nice car. I love all the luxury features, and it rides well. But, I will have to say it these past 8 months I have had my share of problems. First it was my transmission which was rebuilt, and I havent had a problem since then. My most recent problems are as follows.
I have a coolant leak coming from the back of the engine closer to the driver side. From reading the past forums I believe it to be eitheir the oil cooler or heater control valve.
While driving the car I am overwhelmed by fumes inside the car. It smells like oil burning. Again from the past forums I am quessing that it is linked to the oil cooler (?)
I also hear a noise when sitting (both in drive or park) the noise is hard to describe. Not really a ticking noise. It kind of sounds like a vaccum type noise.
I want to upgrade to a cd player but finding a bose harness hasn't been that easy.
My brake lights arent working. I have a bad brake light switch. dealer wants to chare me close to 200.00. It looks pretty easy. If anyone has any ideas or if u have had similar issues. Please help me. By the way I love this forum. It has been extremely help.Though I dont have much knowledge with mechanics I will be glad to chare any info on the repairs that I have had done.
Does anyone know where I can get a list of recall for my catera frustratedinIA 10-18-06, 09:48 PM Hey, My Cat is back! Well sort of. Love this forum!! I posted on here somewhere about it cranking and never starting. Well, I read a lot about the CPS and printed out the pictures and instructions on how to replace it. But, my husband and one of his mechanic friends decided it was the fuel pump. HA! He ordered one from E-bay for $170 and replaced it. Guess what???? The car still didn't start! He also tested the old fuel pump. Guess what???? It worked fine. After being without my Cat for nearly a month, my husband decides maybe it is the CPS and ordered it from Auto Zone, got it yesterday, put it in today. The car runs fine, but it smells like gas inside the car, really bad. He said he left some rubber seal off (something to do with the fuel tank) just in case he needs to take the tank off again. Do you think this is why I am being consumed by the gas smell inside the car? He is so fed up with this car that I think he's hoping it catches on fire. We've had a lot of work done to the car and by now it's about totally new and I still love it. The fuel pump and the CPS is the first time my husband has worked on the car. I worry about him taking a shortcut or something that might cause a whole lot of damage. Let me know what you think about that rubber thing and the gas smell. Keep up the great advice! CateraZigs 01-05-07, 10:45 PM Just got a 98 Catera with 50k miles, no real problems except for valve cover gasket leaks, dealer fixed for free. Searayjba 01-08-07, 04:09 PM Ive got a 1999. Got it from a mechanic friend wh got it on a lien after doing the oil cooler job. Now I've got the ETCBM problem. But do like the car. Marks DTM Calib 01-09-07, 05:42 AM I have a 2001 Omega 2.5Cdx Manual (driver involvement pack) with the full sat nav pack and screen, currently on 55K miles and zero problems (well maintained)
I did have a 1998 3.0 MV6 (sport setup) auto estate (station wagon?) which was ex-police (very popular police car over here due to the speed, carrying capacity and handling) until a Merc Van drove over the bonnet. Have now replaced this with a 2.5V6 Cdx Manual on 137K miles (runs like a dream) as a temp measure until the insurance pays out and I can go looking for a 3.2V6 estate...... rinverso 02-18-07, 08:13 PM just purchased 01 cat with 56,000 miles for $6100...got rid of her sebring convertible. so far i absolutely love this car!! it reminds me of the 88 300e and 94 c280 mercedes we had. it is very responsive and is a real looker. you don't see many on the road. i'm looking to get a euro front grill to loose the look of a chevy lumina or corsica. also ordered side m3 fender vents and rear oem spoiler and new floor mats. my wife loves it and feels safe in crazy west palm beach. also bought an extended warrenty from warrenty direct for 36,000 miles after reading all the bad reviews on older models, hopefully they are resolved in the 2001 model year.
i'm completely amazed how helpful and friendly all the people are on this forum, it has been helpful already. look forward to many years of service (3-5 years) from this car. wish me luck.
robert:bouncy: New Catera owner, I have a 2000, Beige/gold in colour w/ tan leather. Have worked at a GM store for over 15 years and to be honest I dismissed the car as a rebadged Lumina! But when the chance came to buy this car ( has 58,000 kms ). I did some research and drove the car for a couple of days before deciding to buy it. I am very impressed with it.
Already ordered a spoiler from wings west, it's the one I liked the best.
Looking at maybe projector lights, at a minmum upgraded bulbs.
The car works great everything works with the exception of the rear sun shade. albert catera 03-16-07, 10:27 AM Hi , i"m from Puerto Rico and i have a 1998 Catera . When your Cat loses power and you attempt to restart it, does it crank, but never turn over?
Reason why I ask is it's typical on these Cats for the crankshaft position sensor to go out. I have a '99 Cat and I experienced the same thing. See my the threads I put up on the Omega forum.
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1173979625
I also put up a thread on this forum titled "Bought new CPS, Still Won't Start".
Hopefully, it will give you some insight on your issue.
Do you have a AutoZone there in PR? They can scan your Cat and retrieve any error codes. After installing the crankshaft position sensor, and while still experiencing the car not cranking, I took it to AutoZone and the scanner read an error P0603 which referred to a "Keep Alive Memory" error. When I went to the dealership, they told me that an "Idle Relearn" had to be performed.
I'm new at this myself, so I hope this may shed a little more light on your issue. 2001CatOwner 05-20-07, 10:42 AM Hell Yeah i own one. . .or does it own me? I love this car, lets hope the only problem i have is the oil pressure sensor and the difficult bose stereo removal. spaceracer 05-21-07, 06:57 PM Traded up from a 94 Grand Prix to a 2001 sport. I thought I had the GP set up to turn, this baby does it stock! I slide a little more on the leather over the cloth, but it is well worth it. Now just to keep her running a bit longer so maybe I can upgrade her radio to a cd :) If that is even possible. My brake lights arent working. I have a bad brake light switch. dealer wants to chare me close to 200.00. It looks pretty easy. If anyone has any ideas or if u have had similar issues. Please help me.
The part can be had at the dealer for $35 bucks. Drop the dashpad under the steering wheel, remove the wires from the old switch, and (now the fun part) take a hammer to break the old switch. Trust me, the switch is in a strong metal bracket that you don't need to waste time with. Finally put the new switch in and hook the wires back up....viola! you are done. Should take aboot 15 mins tops. mrplease 08-07-07, 02:57 PM :postpics: rinverso 08-12-07, 10:46 PM :postpics:

robert:bouncy:
Hater?? No way. I sort of had to set the grille aside for a while. The vendor I ordered it from sent me the wrong grille and then dragged his feet about fixing their mistake. After four months, instead of the correct grille, he finally credited my Visa. It left a bad taste in my mouth. That's twice I've been screwed over regarding the grille. I still have the crest & wreath. I'll try again later. In the meantime I performed the GTO brake swap. What a difference that made. They really haul the Cat down in a blink. The slotted/dimpled discs and composite pads contributed too.

i bought with 56,000 miles in feb 07, has 63,000 wife driven miles so far. truely love the ride and looks. especially since i got rid of the corsica illumina looking grille. only problem so far. the steering pump and hydraulic hose. idler arm. brakes, tires, serpentine. my mechanic hates working on it, but likes the extended warranty.

Anyway how do you re program the sunroof. I figured as much on the temp sensor, but when I sit at lights the temp goes up, that I thought was strange, but no leaks, and it is a new water pump. Check Engine light just came on today but not sure why? nothing seems any different. I believe this is an issue with all, from what I read.
Thanks for your help though. to program the sun roof you push the sunroof switch in (it'll click when you do) for 10 secons and then your sun roof will work
the temp gauge will rise as you sit at a light. engin gets hottest during stop and go traffic.
only thing I can suggest with check engine light is go to auto zone that can scan it for you.
another suggestion. since this thread is getting bigger and bigger. if you have spacific questions about your car just make a new tread if you search turns up nothing. that way everyone see's the question. I normally don't even go into this thread. mallen600 03-12-08, 06:36 AM Just signed up and I have to say this forum is extremely helpful. I have a 98 with all the options. They are crystal clear. Everyone asks if I bought new ones. Its worth the few hours its takes. All I used was: 320, 600, 800, and 1000 grit sand paper, and some no7 rubbing compound. Here's a diagram. I'd start a new post if I were you. This thread is way too general.
