i just got my windows tinted on my black CTS. i got 5 % in the back 3 windows and 20% in the dirver and passenger. I know it's illegal to have tint in the front but what's the ticket lookin like for california?

i'ma try to get a written permission note from my optomotrist. that ought to solve things but does anyone got pulled over for their tints in CA?

also, the tint place (recommended by the caddie dealership) had to take off my antenna from back window and said they would put it on in 2 weeks once the tint is ready. anyone else had same thing happen?

thanks yall...i appreciate the foru. you guys all sound like coo folks

In Virginia, the law is 30% on the rears and 50% on the front side windows. Nothing is allowed on the windshield. How do you see at night with 5% tint? Somehow, I doubt a note from your doctor will allow you to skirt the law, unless their are specific exceptions in California. Kinda like medicinal uses for Marijuana for glaucoma. Really, officer . . . my doctor said it was OK! LOL

When I lived in California years ago, I remember a guy who put that silver tint on everything but the windshield. He had to cut a 10" hole in the tint on each of his front windows to be legal. It looked stupid but really cut the light coming into his car.

They give out quite a few tickets here according to the tint place. They (police) make you remove it before you go to court. Of course the tint people warn you but then they'll install it anyway. If you get caught, they'll remove it and install legal tint after making a decent profit off your gamble to get by un-noticed.

Many of us from SoCal have no problems with tints, I have had PoPo right next to my car both during the day and night and had no problems..... I guess it all depends if you're doing something wrong already (other then tint) and where you are and how you drive.....:hmm: I have limo all around, and have had them tinted for a long time now without any problems..... It also probably depends on the cop, if (s)he's about ego trip or serving and protecting.... IMHO

As to the antena, they put mine back on the same day they did the tint without any problems.....

In California I believe that the ticket is a fix-it ticket, where you have to remove the tint go to the poilice station pay like $10 and you're done and off to the tint shop to get them re-tinted again.... (maybe others will have more on this - but this is what I remember I heard from someone on the issue)

If you get the note, you'll be fine then I guess (hey if you get one, maybe you could get one for me as well:))

O, and yeah..... :welcome: to the community!!!

Ody, the "note from your doctor" does work. All they have to say is that you're sensitive to light. IL is trying to do away with allowing them, but if you get the ticket all you have to do is take the note to the judge and they will throw it out. Ask flip... he's done it a few times.

They are doing away with the note allowance in California too. I don't believe it has happened yet, but it has been talked about. I want to buy a house in Nevada, so I can have tint all the way around. I currently use 20% porcelin based tint and have the legal tint on the drivers window.

I just got popped for tinted windows about a month ago. The cost was a $10 court filing fee and a $15 inspection fee to the sheriff's department. In my case I got stopped by of all people a SCHOOL POLICE officer while picking up my daughter from her high school. As it so happened I also had my front license plate covered up, which I think initially got his attention. My experience has been that cops will stop you for whatever makes you stand out giving them multiple violations and an excuse for stopping you as opposed to the "other guy".

Now , the "official" reason for the ticket is that it is specifically illegal although there are four or five variations on the law, (important only if you want to fight the ticket). However, the reason I was given was to facilitate giving you a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt. So it seems that if the cop can see your seatbelt he probably wont give you a ticket, based on what I was told. In any event I agree with Kali, weather or not you get a ticket does seem to depend on what kind of mood the cop is in.

I've only been pulled over once for tints. Mine are pretty dark in the front..it was already on the car though when I bought it. It's illegal but I don't think it's much of a problem unless they want an excuse to pull you over. I don't think they trip too much...
