View Full Version : Got a ticket... Talk about bad luck....

Well...

I got my first speeding ticket, a $504.00 ticket....

Now before you call me a dumbass, let me explain myself...

Well, last night I took my car out to park it on the right side of the street and it started to stutter a bit and the acceleration felt a little sluggish... So I check my oil and its low so I put a quart in.

So I figure, "hey, maybe its just a little carbon build up." So I go to the parkway by my house which is a smooth 40mph freeway that at the time, seemed like a good place to do it since there was no cars and it was a nice smooth freeway....

Well, for some reason it never clicked in my head, that this freeway, even though it had very low traffic on it at the time and was nice and smooth... Is a horrible place to speed at because of the patrol in that area. People have told me before but for some reason I didnt remember at the time.

I start to accelerate and then mash the gas and try to get some carbon out, I hit max speed for a few seconds and started to slow down to a normal speed...

I then see a police car parked on the side in the distance and while im decellerating, and think to myself, "you ****ed up dude, slow down." and guess who pulls up behind me and follows me off the exit ramp?

The officer pulls me over and asks "got a license?" I give him my license and he walks back to the car...

So I think to myself "what the ****?"

He came back and asked, "Why were you traveling at such a high rate of speed?"

Being highly allergic to police and slightly nervous I stated that I was having car trouble and just put some oil in my car and that I was trying to work it through my engine.... he looked at me and then walked back to his car.

I then thought to myself "Wait a second, did you just tell him you were trying to get oil through your car? What the hell, You were trying to clear some carbon out dumbass."

He comes back 15 minutes later and askes me,"Do you know how fast you were going?"

I said, "No." He says, "You were going 90 in a 40. Here's your citation."

I then say, "I was going 90?, My speedometer only goes up to 85?"

He says "I dont know, the guns always right, You can fight it if you want, but it wont do you any good," or something to that extent and then he tells me that they will are giving me 6 points and since i have a probationary license that it doubles, and since it doubles that they will suspend my license.

So I tried to explain that I was just trying to clean out some carbon but it didnt matter anymore and the cop told me I was free to go.

I dont understand how they tagged me at 90, I was slowing down by the time I saw the car in the distance.

And Im a safe driver, I never speed. But the one time I do speed, an its for an actual reason, I get a fat ass ticket and risk getting my license suspended.

Im going to fight the ticket, because people tell me that if I try that I could get some points taken off.... Hopefully I can because I dont know what I would do this summer without a license.

So, Ive already heard enough about how that was a dumb move but I just thought I would share it with you guys... For me it was a lesson learned.

Wow that sucks man, but just be glad you didn't do that in Minnesota, I believe they can arrest you for driving 2 times the speed limit.

I don't know if throwing yourself at the mercy of the court is going to help. I know the carbon story will not. I watches a guy try it at traffic court once, and the judge stated "Why didn't you just put it in park and rev the motor" Check into the driving school thing, you take the course (boring unfortunatley) and they should withhold the points. Check with the clerk of the county court to see about going that route. At your age I know insurance is a bear. Good Luck!

As you mentioned, the "one" time you did, you got zinged...I feel for ya...but 50 over is just plain speeding. Fight all you want, and I understand you need point reduction, but keep in mind...you were way over. In my Communist state of Ohio, I wouldve seen a flatbed in 15 minutes loading my car and looking at the back of the officers head from the backseat of the cruiser...consider yourself lucky.

I dont understand how they tagged me at 90, I was slowing down by the time I saw the car in the distance.

Lesson number one: By the time you see the police car, which has the radar gun, it is already too late. The radar had you clocked before you ever saw the police car.

I then say, "I was going 90?, My speedometer only goes up to 85?"

Lesson number two: Just because your speedometer only goes to 85 mph, does not mean that the car is not capable of going faster. Every police officer knows this, as well as every lawyer, and every judge. Forget that statement when you fight the ticket.

So I tried to explain that I was just trying to clean out some carbon but it didnt matter anymore and the cop told me I was free to go.

Lesson number three: Once the ticket is written, there isn't a cop anywhere, who can tear it up, and just let you go. What will he do to explain the missing ticket? All of your fast talk must be done before the officer enters his car.

Hey thanks for the feedback fellas...

Yep, dadillac, I was told pretty much the same thing from everyone, and after thinking about it numerous times, I realized that all three of those things should have been answered through a thing called "common sense" which I wasnt using at the time. I should have at least picked a better freeway to do it on, like one with a 65mph speed limit.

Now about the ticket, Id just really like to get the points reduced.
I heard from a friend that got a ticket last summer, for driving in the wrong direction of traffic in front of a police station, and they also told him that they would suspend his license. He went to court and they told him that if he paid the ticket that they wouldnt take any points off...

Now that would be nice because the money isnt the problem. this is my first ticket and it would really suck balls if I lost my license over it. Do you think actually think getting a lawyer would help?

If you had an '82-'84 instead of your '80...

"Officer, how could I do 90, this has the 4.1 Liter V8!"

Cop and you both laugh and ticket is not written.

Hahaha!

I have to ask, and don't take this the wrong way.

How long did that take to get to 100?

Ranger

Yeah, they know the ropes. They argue things you won't think of. You may not get off, but I think you'll have a better chance of having it reduced. He could always go it alone and ask for court supervision but that might be iffy for 90 in a 40. A lawyer would know how to play it.

Are you asking me how long it took my car to accellerate to 100mph?

Yeah, why were you going THAT fast??? I could understand if it were a Northstar...but you had one of those 80's engines. It had to take you SOME time to get up to 100...

It was an adventure!

durrk johnson
05-28-06, 03:09 AM
yeah, the 368 is in there but why are you guys suprised for?
It didnt take long at all to get to max speed and the car rode quite nice at that speed.

And no it wasnt an adventure dude, It was an innocent drive around the block until it turned into a side-quest....

good luck, if you double the limit here, your licsence is gone, and your car is towed away :D consider yourself somewhat lucky. that cop is eating steak tonight after that ticket heh.

i never really understood why people max out their car to blow out carbon. put it in first gear and let er rip down the street, and that way you can keep it at a legal speed and still get some mean engine braking action.

If you put it in 1st gear and floor it, it will shift in very short order in to 2nd and then again into 3rd everytime the tach reaches redline.
