1996 Nissan Sentra GXE.

I havent driven it yet, but from what I can tell, its the average commuter car. Essentially the perfect first car. 27/36 MPG, which is probably the best part of the car. It'll get probably double my mileage. It's got a 1.6L 16 Valve DOHC I-4 (98 cubic inches, less than 1/3 my engine size!!) I think it's kinda neat that the car has variable valve timing, I'm not sure if that covers all the valves, or just the intake ones, either way it's pretty cool for a car with a $15,000 MSRP in 1996. Actually, I havent sat in it, but I've looked at it, and it looks pretty decent. Real clean, it's a tannish exterior, with grey cloth interior, it's got a Automatic tranny, cassette player, power windows, power locks etc etc. It's actually kinda loaded for a subcompact. It's 170" long, which means its 38 inches shorter than my car!! Kinda a neat car.

I'll take pics and look 'er over tomorrow.

Nope, can't do it....... my 400cc Briggs has a more cool factor :).

Nice little cars, get a manual tranny and they are fun.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. He's 16, so it's his first car, and he paid $2000 cash for it, with 65,000 miles.

Here in Fla their are quite a few runing around. They look good, theirs lots of them, and their inexpensive. Their are also a lot of them running around with the fart cans attached. I think they would sound better just going the intake route and putting on the SER models muffler. Theirs one in my neigborhood set up this way, nice sounding machine.

Hope he has good luck with it, just make sure he doesn't EVER try to rice it out or win a drag race, lol.

It's cool that there is actually an aftermarket for it. I've seen lots of modded ones on Car Domain, of course, if he changes his at all, it'll be tastefully done. ;)

Looks like he got a pretty good deal for it, 65,000 miles is pretty good for a '96

Itd cost me about $5,000 or more to insure a 1.6 car here!

I'm looking at either 1.05 VW Polo

945cc Citroen AX

OR I I really push the boat out and get a decent job, I can get a Rover 214 SEi.

These are luxurious for a first car, electric sunroof, mirrors, windows, half leather, alloy wheels..

Pretty cool for your brother, I wish I could drive at 16! I've only had one driving lesson so far!

That's right, Britain's road taxes are based on engine size! :(

Yeah, he got his first car before I got mine. I got mine two days after my 17th birthday, which would be like him getting this car on July 10th.

Everything seems to be! Road tax for cars older than 2001, if the engine is less than 1400cc it comes in a cheaper tax boundry than bigger engined cars, and also insurance, you'd be surprised how much difference 100cc makes in cost!

I wanted one for my 17th to learn in but I couldn't / can't afford one, so until I can afford to buy and insure a car for me to learn in, I'm using a driving school. Also though ( dunno what the law is in some states) but I know some rules allow learners to drive on their own there?

Not here.

The nice thing about a short car is parking. Our garage entrance is a 90 degree turn off the driveway, and my stepbrother parks behind the garage, making my entrance rather tight. Not easy in the Q, which is just a couple inches shorter than the Fleetwood Brougham.

Once I do get it parked, there's almost no room to walk around the car. I have to remember to leave the garage door open so the passenger can get around it.

I drove it for a little bit today, it's like driving a tin can. It's quite cramped inside, and when you shut the doors, it doesnt have that full, heavy sound like Caddies do, it has a tinny sound, and theres like no sound insulation. I could hear pebbles and things bouncing off the bottom of the car at 30MPH. And, in a drag race from a stop, that '84 Sedan deVille I drove could probably take this thing down. It has no torque at lower speeds, but it is a 1.6L! Neat thing is it's been driven about 45 miles since we filled up, and the needle has barely moved!

Chalk another one up for "the Asian Persuasion". Although for the life of me, I cannot see their appeal. Sure, they're great on mileage - so is a bicycle. Sure, they're easy to parallel park but Hell, I think I'm the only one who really does that anymore, at least up here - so that is beoming a lost art anyway.

Are they cheaper to repair? Not that I've ever heard.

Are they known for lasting appreciably longer than American wheels? Doubtful.

Do they have any soul, any "presence", do they talk to you? No, but they sure speak volumes about the kind of person who buys one!

But don't listen to me - I'm just a crotchety old Fart that believes in buying North American at any and all opportunities, even if it isn't always the best solution. It's just a thing with me, I guess. I want to keep as much of the manufacturing dollar as I can within North America.

Your brother's new car looks fine and I'm sure he'll enjoy it for a long time to come. Ok, now it's time for my hot cocoa and bedtime. Goodnight.

Actually, he only really bought it because our next door neighbor was gonna trade it in, and my brother gave him more money for it than the dealer would have. He wasn't exactly dying for a Sentra, but it gets the job done. But yes, he would have bought a Japanese car if he had the choice, probably an Integra or something dorky like that.

Oy my god, my Cadillac hating friend Asher(the one I told you about) drives the exact same car! does your bro hate Caddys too lol?

And my Dad Drives a white 1.6 litre '99 Sentra SE manual. ugly little bitch, but it gets the job done, with 45 mpg no less! plus he knows how to get the tires to chirp from a light, very amusing :D The thing looks like a f*cking egg parked behind my Cadillacs haha.

That is the perfect first car.

Better than an econobox in every way. I just made my friends split the gas because they always wanted to take it instead of their cars, and it was like I was getting 40mpg!

Philistines. Even my Honda-driving sister and brother-in-law like Cruella.

At least you didn't get that genetic defect.

If your brother is only 16 he doesn't have enough experience, wisdom, or maturity to appreciate a Cadillac. That's alright, he can go ahead and think ricers are hot shit, when in reality, all they do is sound like it!

Hahahaha oh how I have learned that people from about 16-17 are real dumb and immature recently. But I have faith that age will make him more mature and enlighten him.

I got lucky, I was enlightened at age 14.

Benzilla
05-30-06, 08:59 PM
I was enlightened at birth lol, always wanted a caddy, I was born lucky.

why the f*ck do people hate caddys? I just don't get it! and how could your friends think the Goodfellas car is brown? copper maby, but brown?? I guess I'm just still bitter because of my "friend" Asher, he did some shit talking about caddys like they came with wheelchairs bolted in the trunk.

Oh my god Dave, my dad's 75 Coupe deVille was the same color combo as your Sedan. That color has a very special place in my heart.

And you ask how people can hate Cadillacs? Because they know a Caddy is better than their car and they know they are too much of a wimp to handle machine as superior as a Cadillac. I guess it's like that penis envy thing, but with cars.

Very well put, also I say consider the source, my friend Asher is the same guy that one time got high and thought it would be a fun idea to put icy hot on his balls, then went running around the front yard screaming "oh god it burns, somebody wipe it off" he also has been known to put out blunts in his headliner, and after he bought his sentra he purposly hit it with a hammer in a few places because he wanted it to have a more "punk" feel to it:thepan: ... yeah, always consider the source.

Most people around my age don't like Cadillacs because they think they're all "old people cars."

Luckily I know better

The thing is, all of my other friends love my Cadillacs because they think they look really Gangster or pimpin'. infact, one of my younger friends(15) is looking for his first car, and he told me that he only wants a RWD Cadillac preferably a '79 Coupe, or a '66 Mustang, and he has me looking for Cadillacs for him :) I brought him up right.
