I've heard mixed reviews on those Auroras. You have a lot of very nice cars, personally I like the Aurora the best. Hows the reliability on that? I've heard mixed reviews on those Auroras.
I had a 95 Aurora way back and loved the car but hated all the problems. I just picked this 96 up a few months ago and it is great in every way. I would not have bought that GXP if I had this Aurora. The car is loaded with every option even the BOSE with rear sub system which was pretyy rare. I am actually considering selling the GXP for a used 2001 to 2003 Mercedes S55. I~LUV~Caddys8792 05-26-06, 01:17 PM Ah cool. I've always had a thing for the 1st gen Auroras, kinda thinking about buying one next.. caddycruiser 05-27-06, 04:43 PM Ah cool. I did too, and there's a lot about them that was better than the 2nd gen. I'd love to find a mint White Diamond one with the light beige interior (and the chrome wheels and sunroof) someday...even though the FWD still isn't my favorite thing.
Really like those trucks too, but not sure I would have tried to make it look kinda like the Lincoln version via a few different parts...but still nice overall.
I'd be tempted to swap the Bonneville for an MB like that too. You'd still have one very nice V8 GM G-body, and those MB's are terrific, even if a bit pricey to maintain. I've always liked the look of those GXP's, and the power, but could never figure out why such a big car felt so cramped and never liked the cheap feel (mainly interior, but still bothersome). I~LUV~Caddys8792 05-27-06, 05:10 PM The thing about the Aurora's for me anyways, is the horrible reliability reputation of the 95 and '96s..kinda makes you wonder if the problems lasted until '99. And the Northstar was never as quick in those cars, plus with all the inherint Northstar problems and other little things. And, I'm still debating whether or not I like the exterior design. Like the Riviera, it looks awesome from some angles, and horrible in others. caddycruiser 05-27-06, 10:28 PM I think it's one GM design that actually looks darn good from every angle (and I am SEVERELY critical of that kind of thing), and definately looked worlds better than the frumpy and bland Buicks (excluding the Riviera) and Cadillacs from the same era.
As far as the reliability, I'd probably stay away from a '95 too just because, but beyond that, I never read much bad about them. Pretty much the same as other GM cars of the era, but a very solid body structure, great refinement, and very unique. Same kind of engine deal as other similar Northstars, but if maintained properly, still not a big issue. Well they wanted $42,000 for a 2wd Lincoln mark LT and $32,000 for the 4wd F150 Lariat I got. Mine also has the DVD package that the Mark LT did not. For just under $500.00 including the 18" rims my F150 is now a Mark LT Clone.
The 96 Aurora seems just as quick as my GXP with the 4.6 in it. The car is loaded with every availible option and has just under 97,000 miles on it.
The GXP is a real looker but thats about it to me. I am hoping to find an S55 at a dealer but they are so high. I like the Lincoln treatment on the Lariat. Those are great trucks. I drove one a few months ago and was very impressed.
I bought an Expedition for the same reason you bought the Lariat. I saved something like $11,000, and all I'm missing are power running boards, air suspension that raises and lowers it 1", power liftgate, and the vented side rear windows.
I'm sure all those features on the Navigator are worth $11,000 -- but who needs them? I don't miss them at all. caddycruiser 05-29-06, 11:31 PM Well they wanted $42,000 for a 2wd Lincoln mark LT and $32,000 for the 4wd F150 Lariat I got. Still, the truck looks terrific and definately is more unique than your typical Lariat--though that's not exactly a low starting point:thumbsup:
As for the Bonnie/S55 thing, good luck, as the value of Bonnies is dropping more everyday and it might be pretty hard to find even a regular S-class for a good price, let alone an S55...but not impossible.
