View Full Version : question about exhaust tips. justadamname 05-26-06, 02:07 AM I have a 2006 cts 3.6L and the problem is that i leased the car so i am scared to do any thing to it. But i really want to put exhaust tips but im scared that when i give the car back i might have to take them off and was wondering if it would leave a hole in the pipes? Can you guys please let me know. Welcome to the site! The last thing you have to worry about is tips. E&G has the best looking set in my opinion, there are a couple others. They require a small screw into the end of the tailpipe to secure. Even if you took them off, you wouldn't see the little hole that held it in place. The exhaust tip (stock) are tucked up under the bumper, they would never know. Smokin' 04 CTS 05-26-06, 02:35 AM Mine are clamped on with screws and don't leave any marks at all. They're cheap too, only $40 from pepboys if you get lucky and find them.

WHen it goes back, i will simply take the exhaust off and put the stock one back on. I have the EG tips. They won't even notice the small screw holes. RobertCTS 05-26-06, 05:49 AM E&Gs are great. Unlike Chrome they won't rust. About $75-$80 on Ebay.

You didn't link your question so I'm not sure who you are asking. From the posts here there are no part numbers. Go to www.ebaymotors.com (http://www.ebaymotors.com) and input E&G exhaust tips. Bought mine on E-bay, still look great. Just keep up on the cleaning and polishing. The screw holes will be virtually invisible. BonusPro 05-26-06, 10:50 AM underbid.com has them with shipping for $81.95. I dont work for them, just the least expensive site I could find. Does anyone know if they have any noise effect to the exhaust system? NOI DON'T. THE PEP BOY VERSIONS ARE NICE BUT THEY WILL RUST. E&G WON'T. I have a 2.8 and wanted to put a tip on it. But I don't want to buy 2, and is the exhaust the same size? SoCadillac 05-26-06, 12:20 PM NOI DON'T. THE PEP BOY VERSIONS ARE NICE BUT THEY WILL RUST. E&G WON'T.
How on earth can you make a blanket statement, "...THEY WILL RUST" when no part number was submitted so that said part can be checked to substantiate what material it is made of? I have seen the Pep Boys exhaust tip selections and not only do they have steel tips that are chromed, they also have stainless steel tips too.

Mr Egghead,
I know because I have had them. Bought them from Pep Boys. Other members have had them to...and it has been our experience that they can rust. No where in my statement do I say 100% will rust!! You assume to much in making your evil spirited remarks.

You had which ones? You have no way to substantiate which model this is and you have assumed that the picture represents the ones you had. Bogus at best and totally misleading on your part. Oh, I forgot, you are the Pep Boys in-house store buyer who stocks their shelves national-wide, so you are the authority. underbid.com has them with shipping for $81.95. I dont work for them, just the least expensive site I could find. Does anyone know if they have any noise effect to the exhaust system?
They're just redirecting the exhaust gasses by a few degrees, I can't imagine there's much sonic impact. I didn't notice any. They don't restrict flow and they're quite heavy (so I doubt they resonate much). Black Ops 05-26-06, 04:09 PM You had which ones? Pep boys are chrome and will rust as opposed to E&G stainless steel. Smokin' 04 CTS 01-08-07, 10:24 PM Pep boys are chrome and will rust as opposed to E&G stainless steel.
Hey bob.. Mine are still shining very well and have absolutely no signs of rust. They are going on their 3rd year and the only issue is exhaust "sut", so I would recommend the 40 dollar pair from Pep Boy's... especially if you are like me and have your car polished up in sunny california year round.
Now in Midwest, rust may be an issue... but then again, eventually your entire car will rust (in theory). Yet, in reality rust is not that big of a deal so long as you clean and maintain your car regularly.
I just think you had bad luck with the tips you originally had that rusted. I just don't like the smaller, rounded E&G tips.
Take Care! hehe, ill probably do that still tbone2z 08-13-07, 10:14 AM Jon, did you have to cut/bend your pipes to get that look on your 3.6? I love the look of yours and am considering buying the same ones, but I'm worried about the downward bend of the pipes on my '07. I want to make sure they fit flush with the bumper and that they don't point downward like some I have seen. Thanks Jon, did you have to cut/bend your pipes to get that look on your 3.6?
