| View Full Version : Sooooo What.... The Firebird's Coming Back Too? DopeStar 156 05-26-06, 01:42 AM http://www.autospies.com/article/index.asp?articleId=7325 I'm confused.... I~LUV~Caddys8792 05-26-06, 01:46 AM Jeez, I guess you never got that memo... DopeStar 156 05-26-06, 02:26 AM Apparently I was out sick that day of school.... ShadowLvr400 05-26-06, 02:41 AM Lutz wont let a good product come out of GM. His bosses at DC and Ford won't allow it. SSTUD 05-26-06, 03:09 AM No firebird is dead its just an artist's concept. If you get this months hot rod it shows works for a mercury mustang a chrysler cuda and a pontiac trans am...pontiac sucks now with the gto gone..and NOTHING to tide over the pony car market until 09..which leaves 3 more years for Ford to blow GM away and capitalize on this market until high gas prices force it to a close. So just like last time 30 years ago, ford beat gm to it..once again and the camaro this time 7 years after the last f-bod came off the line in 02 is far too long for them to expect any come back. GM f*cked up big time. Blackout 05-26-06, 06:28 AM That is a photoshop someone from the LS1forums did i think. But there will be no Trans Am because GM lost the right to the name. ChicagoCTS32 05-26-06, 10:26 AM Nice photochop though. They even photochopped T-Tops on it! caddycruiser 05-27-06, 04:33 PM The only really "sure" things are: a) The Camaro is coming, and is in development, remaining pretty much identical to the concept. b) The current GTO is dead, but that was no suprise. As far as a new Pontiac version, no one inside GM is even completely sure of what they'll be doing yet, and the story does really change everyday (GTO vs. Firebird/Trans Am, etc.), but they might figure it all out soon. In the meantime, the Camaro is the main focus, and getting everything about it completely right should be and really is the goal. DopeStar 156 05-27-06, 04:55 PM The Camaro is coming, and is in development, remaining pretty much identical to the concept. This makes me happy.... Destroyer 05-27-06, 09:17 PM This makes me happy....Yeah me too. Ford put out a lot of Mustangs since the demise of the fbodies. There will be so many Mustangs for the Camaro's to once again beat on, it'll be great. caddycruiser 05-27-06, 10:22 PM Yeah me too. Ford put out a lot of Mustangs since the demise of the fbodies. There will be so many Mustangs for the Camaro's to once again beat on, it'll be great. Yep, that's exactly the goal. The last Camaros and Firebirds that were around REALLY got out of date and too expensive to be any kind of a competitor to the more popular package the Mustang offered, and GM does seem to realize that. It's been said several times now that, when they do it, they expect to produce/sell about 100-120k a year, with a mixture of V6 models starting right around $20k and a really beefy V8 under $30k. Not sure what V6 they plan on using--I would say the recent 3.9L VVT OHV would be the best bet--but it was said that the V8 would most likely end up being a version of the 400 horse 6.2L monster currently in Escalades and Denalis, but with DOD added (as it should be across the board for that engine by then). All the parts are definately there, and nothing about the design is too far out there to be production ready, so don't expect much of a change...should be a lot like the Solstice, where the concept and production versions are virtually identical as far as styling and proportions, but with more refined details and a more livable interior--the latter (interior) being something GM stated wasn't the greatest in the concept, and they realized that, but it would be more friendly for production. Should be an awesome vehicle/set of vehicles, when they come out, and one that's advanced enough under the skin that they don't have to try and "do their best" with a bunch of antique parts and a lack of structural strength (like the sloppy last Camaro/Firebird had to deal with). | |
