The Sixteen concept car indicates “where we might go,” says Cadillac’s Mark LaNeve. “We’re having lots of discussions about the concept.”
DETROIT - Cadillac has confirmed it will build an ultraluxury sedan, but don't expect to see the car until late in the decade.

"Cadillac is very interested in the elite premium, 7-series, S-class segment," said Mark LaNeve, Cadillac's marketing general manager, at the Detroit auto show.

"We need an elite premium (model in the) V-8, V-12 ultraluxury category."

At the Automotive News World Congress two weeks ago, LaNeve said: "The question is not if we should do ultralux products. It's how, what and when - so stay tuned."

Robert Lutz, vice chairman for product development, told AutoWeek that a range of models would start around $80,000 and top out at $300,000. AutoWeek is a sister publication to Automotive News.

The XLR, which has a retractable hardtop, is the brand's most expensive car. It starts at $76,200, including the destination charge.

LaNeve said the Cadillac Sixteen, a concept shown at the 2003 Detroit auto show, indicates "thematically where we might go. We're having lots of discussions about the concept and what it might look like; what platform it might use."

Asked about the time schedule for the ultraluxury sedan, Cadillac spokesman Jeff Kuhlman said no plan or architecture has been approved.

General Motors manufactures the STS sedan, CTS sedan and SRX crossover on the Sigma platform. The XLR is built on the Chevrolet Corvette platform.

Kind of like people used to say electrolux was the cadillac of vaccum cleaners. Personally I think the CIEN is the best looking car i have ever seen. Not that i could afford it but if they would hurry up and make the dam thing I could mabye buy a used one in this lifetime.

You never know with the Cien. The V-12 is suppose to go into production for the trucks.

One of the guys at work keeps a photo of the SIXTEEN over his desk. He always looks at it and says "Someday".

So, when it comes out in production, you guys say its probably going to get a V12 instead of a V16 , will it then have to be called a Cadillac Twelve? :suspense:

El Dobro

No, if it comes out, it should still have the V-16. The V-12 is suppose to come out in the Escalades, so it may be a possibility that the Cien will be made since the engine in it was a V-12.

i heard that they're going to make that beautiful car too. caddy is going to be the best (not that it isn't now, but that's better then a bentley). and if it starts at $80,000 and finishes at $300,000 then it might have a v8, v12 or v16 option :bonkers: . for those of u who dont believe this, caddy has made 2 v16 models before and after WW2 and they were very poular (i forgot where i read this). IMO caddy is going to be the end of BMW and Merc :littlewes:gnome:  :gnome: :littlewes

the thing that i think is the best is that its a V-16 1000hp and 1000tq AND it gets 20mpg thanks to a 16-8-4 fuel cut off and cylinder shutoff. i cant wait till its in production

thats all good but many people who like the car cant afford a car with a v16 but if it's going to be $80,000 and have a v8 it would have a bigger market.

but as long as they have i dunno a "highroller" option for the v16 i can deal with that

Thank God Cadillac has finally woke up ! The last couple of years proves that they can still be the best BUT better watch out --------- Have you seen the new Chrysler 300 ? Pretty sharp and it's affordable. How about that Crossfire and again it's affordable. I don't want Caddy to put out a cheap car but they better stay on the ball.

One more thing. PLEASE, PLEASE, tell me the grille will not be PLASTIC. I know chrome is expensive and heavy but at $80,000 + I think they could make it work.

The CTS-V has a stainless steel mesh grill. There is no reason why they would put a plastic one on their Ultra Luxury car.

Well it's official something like this will be made. I saw it on the front of the Rob report for all the big ballers. Man, this looks good. The v 16 should shut up all the Maybach owners,if they make one, no offence to benz. 22inch wheels standard, I don't think so maybe 20's if we are lucky. Finally somthing to brag about. Watch out 760 i and s 600. Oh I forgot where is lexus's ultra luxury car? They don't have one, HA,HA,HA,HA,HA,HA even volts wagon has a v12 (phanton)

Now if they made a factory turbo version...

06-02-04, 09:12 PM
i heard that the fully equiped version will be like the concept: v16, the whole ultra-extreme-luxury interior thing and 24" rimms :bighead:. basically it's the end to RR, Bentley and Maybach :coolgleam (Bimmer is not even a question)

Caddy is back in the best of the best car in the world game :lildevil:, i think it's about time to take back what we shouldn't have given away in the first place. everyone was feenin to get a DeVille back in the day, now it's s600, 760iL, or the sad LS430, i mean DeVille even sound better :rolleyes2

you should have seen how proud they were when they were talking about the SC430, they said it had a v8 evey 10 seconds :helpless:. finally found out a sports car needs one :rolleyes2

As other members on the board I will open a savings account right away to start saving $$$$ to buy the Sixteen. As other members were saying when the Sixteen comes out to production it will be the end of the other luxury brand cars. Europeans, Japanese, etc.

I dont mean to go off topic, but since everybody here has a lot of knowledge on caddys V16 and V12 engines, does anybody knows or have heard the expected release date of the Escalade-V?

Thanks,

Mejia

The sixteen looks nice. Like something Cruella De Vil would drive:bonkers: . I can't see me getting one though. I personally like the Cien. What a departure from what Caddys look like now. It almost looks like something that Lamborghini would make. Kinda like GM just copied the Murcielago but it looks a lot more futuristic. Anyways, lets hope Cadillac stays on the path they're on right now and they might just wind up back on top.

El Dobro

Cadillac should just use the name "SIXTEEN" for it. Those letters work fine.

I'll never be able to afford one but I've had a diecast model of the Sixteen on order since January. It's still on backorder. Wonder how long you will have to wait for the real thing. Can't wait to see how close they stay to the concept car. Hope they don't make a lot of changes.
