I think they came on the cars from the company that built them to make them seem more authentic, I can't remember the name of the company though.

I knew the white one was real, But I wasin't sure about the tan one, the top looked more custom, maby it was just the '90 kit that threw me. I got the pics from layitlow.com caaaaddyfest, so there was no info with them.

Hess & Eisenhardt of Cincinatti, Ohio.
The reason some are quite different is because to be ordered CORRECTLY, there was a guideline on HOW TO ORDER a unit for the conversion. SOME dealers followed it to the letter. Others didn't care and pulled cars from stock and shipped them there. Correctly ordered cars were drop shipped from Cadillac TO H & E and then shipped to the ordering dealer.
2-Tone was forbidden, standard full wheel discs were likewise as well as cloth interior, vinyl top and rear window defroster. (DUH) !! !! All factory paint colors were a "go" as well all color interiors. Illuminated Visor Vanity Mirrors were a no go the first year or two. They were EXPENSIVE !!
Somewhere I have the total production # ~ from memory I think it's 400.

Benzilla
05-23-06, 11:21 PM
Sandy, you kick ass! you know everything! I thought you only had '85 and up info.

Sandy
05-24-06, 02:35 PM
Ya, that was a typo! Shoulda said '55 & up !

That 2-tone brown Le Cabriolet I don't think is 2-tone brown. I do believe that it's black and pewter with claret interior.
Yes, I checked. No year-by-year breakdown, but a total # of 407 !!

Benzilla
05-25-06, 07:45 AM
Any idea how many '79 Phaetons were made? even better, how many Western saddle Firemist ones were made. Or how many '83 Coupe Devilles with a saddle interior? that would probably be hard to track down though..

Color usage per model in my library of vast plains of Cadillac & Imperial gOOdies, begins with model year 1985. Sorry. Production #s per model begin with Day 1 of Cadillac production and 1955 model year of Imperial production.

So, you're Light Beige Metallic - Monotone.

Mountain Laurel is the REAL name of the color adopted by Mary Kay Cosmetics. Mountain Laurel was a standard color offered by Cadillac for 1956 & 1957. It was the original pink hue that the cosmetics company selected and was used from 1985 thru 1988. Then it was slightly altered darker for 1989. Since then the color has been altered many times. Still, in & around Mary Kay Cosmetics - no matter waht alterations are done to the color, they still call it Mountain Laurel / Mary Kay Pink

what was it like in the late '70s/early '80s? I ask because in the movie I saw about mary k. (I only watched it to see the cars, don't worry) and they were a darker pink than the powder light stuff I see on FWD caddys. also, was the one in Goodfellas a mary k.?

Sandy
06-01-06, 06:25 PM
I didn't see Goodfellows.
The 1989 - 1993 were deeper that the original, but when I say "deeper" it was only very very slightly deeper. In 1994 thru 1999 the got lighter in color, but less "pink". About 2000 or so they got Pearlized (metallic) and lighter yet!
This continued to 2005, inclusive. The 2006 is still pearlized but deeper and trurer PINK than most in the past. It's pretty PINK for 2006 !! Allantes were always PEARL Pink....

Oh you HAVE to. You'd enjoy all of the cars in there, especially the '79 Phaeton. In one famous scene, Henry has a '66 Chrysler Newport convertible sedan (atleast I think that's what it was) and theres another scene with a '64 or so Buick Riviera and many others!
