Does anyone have a good way to remove the ugly dealer tags on the back of cars? I'd like to remove the dealer tag which appears to be an adhesive sticker.

I read about goof off for interior stickers and hair dryers for vinyl pinstriping, but I have not seen anything on the exterior. I am concerned about ruining the paint and clear coat.

In addition to the dealer sticker tag, there is a metallic TX Longhorn that I would like to remove from the back of my DTS.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

The hairdryer will work fine. Just keep the air moving, don't blow on one spot for more than a second. Just keep heating it up and picking at it with your finger nail. If you get a corner, keep peeling veeeeerrrrrrryyyyy slowly and evenly. Once you start, don't stop and keep blowing the warm air on it. If that doesn't work quite good enough, take some dental floss and saw under the tag with it. If you have some residue left over, use goo gone sparingly. Dump a very small amount on a clean rag and dab it on the glue, rub it off with your thumb. Repeat til it's gone.

One last 'ting. When you're done with the goo-gone, go back over the area with clean, warm water. Flood the spot - your paint will say "AAAAAHHHH" in gratitude. And you'll have nice, spotless place to reapply your topcoat/sealant of choice

Something to consider when removing older stickers , emblems and badges, you may have some ghosting left when your done. Older cars that spend years in the sun are more prone to this problem . For those that don't know what ghosting is , its the covered section that hasn't been exposed to the sun effects of fading .

Gentlemen, thanks for the advice. The hair dryer and dental floss worked really well. Thankfully, there was no ghosting. In less than an hour, I got rid of the dealer emblem and Longhorn emblem. Thanks again.

Congrats! Glad we could help.

I took off my dealer emblem in about 5 minutes. I was pretty lucky, it was only on the car for a few months and it was one of those thick foam style stickers.

I Shaved off mine as well to replace them with the 2002 and up, and also bought a northstar bage from '04 and up...any way you guys can recommend putting these on the right way? I dont want them to be offcenter of crooked.

Tombo, you just need a good eye and a steady hand. The N* emblem goes on the lower left hand side of the trunk lid - at least that is where it is on my '97. Imagine a centre line drawn down the middle of the "C" pillar. From the bottom of the pillar, go up about 1 1/2 hand-widths and you should be at the right spot. Look at some '97/99 Devilles and that'll give you a better idea. The emblem on the hood is self explanatory. And you can get replacement centre caps for the rims that have the right vintage of emblem.

I think that about covers the emblem department, as far as locations. Anyone know if I've left anything out?

Use tape and string. Tape one of the string to an anchor point, put a string level on it, and tape the other end. Take off the level, repeat til you have a grid.

OK, I just went out and LOOKED for myself re: those C-pillars. Instead of measuring 1 1/2 hands, make that just 1 hand-width,,,,,,,,up from the bottom of the pillar.

OK Tom, some "snaps" showing where I ended up putting the things on.. First pic shows the C Pillar placement and the second one shows the hood. BTW the gloss factor on that hood was attained by Meguiar's NXT wax, AFTER a clay job.
