I stumbled upon this site. Lots of great info! I own a 1975 Eldorado with 62,000 original miles on it. It has been mildly restored but also has a lot of the original stuff on it. It turns heads, especially at the gas pump!

I do have a technical question, however. I had the original Q-jet rebuilt by a professional and it runs great. However, the transmission kickdown does not seem to work as good as it did before, as in it does kick down into the previous gear as "hard" as it did before. Is there something I have to adjust in the carb or the linkage?

Was the kickdown switch installed correctly, and have you tested it to make sure it works?

Where is that located?

I'm not 100% sure about those transmissions, but on the other Cadillacs, it's mounted on the drivers side of the carb on the end of the linkage. You should see a black arm that rides with the throttle linkage. It should have a L shaped connector on it as well. Check to make sure that switch is still there, and if it is, you can check it with a multimeter to see if it works.

Nice Eldo!

Yup, its black and on the driver side... its electronic kickdown, make sure the harness is plugged in correctly and that the wires are ok, IIRC the switch can be rotated to adjust kick down... it may have been installed wrong and downshifts too late etc...

Yes it can be rotated for adjustment.
