Pretty easy to do. Took me 1 hour taking my time. I was able to pull the wire thru the top of the gauge cluster. A very Stealthy unit. The main detector does not light up, unless you disconnect the wire from the concealed display unit. Look's very cool!
May I e-mail some pics to anybody to host? I can wire up the darn V-1 quicker than I can figure out how to post a picture lol.

email to me at writestephan@yahoo.com and I'll see if I can post to this board. am curious to see what and how you did it. i am thinking of getting a valentine myself with the remote and somehow mount the remote near/in the (useless) ashtray...

Images as taken by Lars464 - placement of his V1 in the dash.
Nice setup... :bouncy:

Additional comment by Lars: "I looked at the ashtray for the install, but liked the display in my direct sight line. The unit is much smaller than it looks in the pics."

looks nice, are you not allowed to have radar detectors where you live??? and can you dim the remote display?

Is the main unit still up on the windshield next to the mirror?

The main unit is still on the windshield. You must have this for the hidden unit to work! The concealed display was $40.00, not bad at all when you look at the cost of the other mods we do. As far as being able to dim, I am not sure. I just put it in today. I will play with it tonight to see about that. I ran the wire from the mirror, under the headliner, down the pillar trim, then removed the gauge cluster and was able to get it thru. 2 7mm bolts held the cluster in.

I got a mount for a C6 Corvette and put it on the back of my mirror. The suction cup thing doesn't work here in the summer. I like the placement and that's the same place I have it in the Corvette. So when it beeps I know exactly where the display is.

you can always upload pictures to http://www.clubcts.com/upload/

I will host those pictures on the FAQ too... Care to write a procedure?

FYI, I like the location I have now (above left of the rear view) becuase it is easy to mute. I would NOT want to reach through the wheel to mute it although it looks nice.

I saw those C5/6 mounts, they were cool, but higher in my mind is better (longer range). does that affect your view out the windshield?

Reed:
Pix sent to you for the faq; lars464 will have to write procedures.
btw: did you place the remote also above left of rear view? am i reading your post correctly? doesn't that defeat the purpose of the remote?

You can reach around the steering wheel to mute the V-1. Requires no more effort than reaching up to the windshield. I usually keep it muted anyway. My purpose for the concealed remote was so nobody behind me can see the lights on my radar detector. I am glad to write up the procedure Reed. Where do I send it to?

I am used to it and don't think it affects my view. The reason I don't like it above the mirror is because I have a limo tint strip about 4" wide at the top of the windshield, and I do believe that would effect range. When I first got the V, I placed the V1 different places and the only one I really liked was below the mirror.

Remote mounts are the way to go. I mounted my Escort SR7 with lidar just to the left of the mirror. Sensor for radar and the two lidar sensors are in the grill. This is my second one of these and the best radar detector I have ever had.

That is really nice. I wish V-1 made remote mounts. Do the remote's transmit wireless, or are they hard wired in?

Lars,

It's all hardwired. Everything plugs into a control module under the dash.

I mounted my remote display in the ashtray. Plenty easy to see and I can hide it away by shutting the ashtray. It's a convenient location for muting also.

Hey Shane. Do you have radar protection from the rear of the vehicle?

Lars,

It has a laser sensor for the rear, but I didn't install it. Fortunately I don't think I'll have a problem with getting caught from behind:tisk: . My radar sensor in the grill has saved me from behind twice though.
