I have a '99 Escalade with about 90k miles now. It recently has started making a noise in the power steering. The noise is only there after it has been driven for a bit and warmed up. It only makes the noise at idle or low rpm. It's a bumping type of noise that you can hear and feel in the steering wheel. The power steering fluid is fine and the belt does not seem to be slipping. When I first start it, and drive it, there doesn't seem to be any noticeable problem, but once it warms up, it becomes very noticeable.
Any suggestions as to what might be going on?
Dave
Have you ever changed the ps fluid? Your pump maybe starting to go.

Not sure if it's at all applicable, but they just changed out our torsion bearings RF but the noise was a "clank". and only after warmup, only on slow speed turns.

I was not aware that changing the power steering fluid would be necesary. I will look into that right away.
Like I said, it only acts up after it has been driven for aways and is good and warmed up. Even then, it only does it at idle. If the engine rpms are up a little bit, it does not do it. But try to turn the wheels while backing into the garage with the engine just idling and it makes that strange bumping kind of noise. Raise the engine rpm a little and it quits.
Has anyone changed their power steering before? How did you do it?
Thanks,
Dave

Yea, like they said ur pump is about to go, but in the meantime... You can get a mechanic's siphon and siphon the fluid out of the reservoir. If you have to replace the pump, dont go to the dealer, just get one from a 99 tahoe/yukon and take the extra parts off the back of yours and put on that one. Be careful not to break the pin if you do this.
