This is my 1996 Deville 32,000 orig miles. I have added a 16 speaker Eclipse audio system with 3 amps and 2 12's in the trunk. Custom floor mats, fog lights, chrome exhaust tips and new rear wing with 3rd brake light. I absolutely adore this car. The wing is new and I am anxious to get some feedback on it as well as the exhaust tips. I am about to add high intensity headlamps and am thinking about a Billet grill. Feedback please !!

I actually think that wing is kinda neat! It's subtle which makes it work well. If it wasn't subtle, it would make the car look ricey and annoying. I really like the exhaust tips too!

I'm not a fan of wings on a Cadillac but you pulled that off well. Looks good!

MONS PUBIS!!

You scooped me by a half a day. I'm getting Magnaflow exhaust tips installed on my '97 Sedan Deville, supposed to pick it up @ noon hour today. They've got a very gradual oval shape and just show the end of the tips thru the valance. Your's looks great, too!

As for the wing, is that a custom, one-off? I didn't know they made wings for the cadillac bulgemobiles like ours. I'm not too partial to them myself but in your case, it somehow works.

Job well done!

WOW, this is just the kind of feedback I had hoped for. I agree, if someone told me they were putting a wing on there Deville, I would be like yeek. But this is subtle and almost looks stock. I purchased this badboy at spoilers4less.com you can buy it primed or painted, I opted to have my guy paint it just in case it arrived damaged (it didn't) all said and done It cost me just under $500. I will post more pics soon. Now, what do you all think about a Billet grille for my lady Deville? You can have a look at Billet grills for Caddy's at airbagit.com huge selection and the only Billet's I have ever seen for a 96. Geez I love Caddy's

michael96
05-18-06, 10:52 AM
Oh yeah, that pimple on her grill, that is a Cadillac Heritage of Ownership grill badge, bought it on e-bay for ten bucks

Not sure if you noticed, the wing has a really cool 3rd brakelight as well, long and narrow.

what exactly is the heritage of wonership badge, i took one off my ESC

Frost
05-18-06, 12:47 PM
It was a badge that the dealers gave out to caddy buyers and if you had, say, 3 caddies under your belt from previous ownerships, then you got one with the roman numeral "III" in the centre of the badge - I think.

As for the billet grilles, the only aftermarket grilles that I have seen for the 97-99 devilles make me want to blow large chunks. I ended up buying a Concours grille for my '97 Deville (name of Lucille), removed the traditional crest/wreath from the centre and replaced it with the updated "art and Science" logo. As a matter of fact, I went and replaced all my traditional emblems with the updated variety - just prefer the looks of it over the old one. When I get some dineros freed up, I'm going to have this grille painted body colour to match (SilverMist Metallic).

In addition to the new exhaust, I picked up some 2003 chrome caddy wheels and Vogue tyres off of CardioDoc and a stainless steel rocker panel set from QAAUSA.

Once all this fluff has been installed on Lucille, watch for her debut on the pages of this august forum!

You'll need a heat gun (or hair dryer - it'll just takes a bit longer) and soften up the 3M adhesive that's holding those emblems on. Once they're off, go over the emblem site with GOOP-OFF or some such to remove any remnents that might be left on the paint. Go very easy around a heat gun and the paint, btw - it's very easy to damage it from the heat.

didn't bother with the updated N* emblem - too pricey for what you get. I'l wait until one shows up at a junkyard and then pick it up from there.

michael96
05-18-06, 03:07 PM
The Art & Science emblem, would that be the same one thats on my 2000 DTS? and if so wouldn't they look strange or unoriginal on a 96 or 97 Deville?
Attached my 2 babies nestling together in my driveway. How cute

Better be careful Mike - they may get together, begat a freakin' Catera and you'll NEVER be able to unload that ugly duckling!

Yeah, I've never been a fan of spoilers myself. I think that name suits them. But I have to admit, it's not too shabby when done sleekly as that. Usually when I see a spoiler of appropriate size, I put a bottle of water in between it...they get that large and rediculous.

MAD PROPS love what youve done with her and the tips. I threw on a pair of full boar mufflers and z/28 camaro rectangle tips on my eldo i though it filled the space better than the dual ovals.

that spoiler looks surprisngly decent....Very Subtle, nice job with that. Now all you need is a vin 9 motor, or 300HP to back it up

michael96
05-21-06, 08:36 AM
ahhh to have the 300hp motor from the 96 concours, would love that. I have it in the DTS and she is pretty quick. my DTS has 53k on her but this doll has only 32k. I got this car from my gramma (Annie) she bought it new and then a few years later lost her eyesight so wala she's mine. Of course i can be seen on any given sunday "driving miss Annie" around town!! Here are a few pics witout the wing

michael96
05-24-06, 10:29 AM
Stoneage, where have you been. You were one of the first to welcome me here a year ago when I was a newbie. I think I was the one who told you where to get your billet grill (airbagit.com) Well I have made some mods since then but still am not sure about the Billet. It defineatly looks good on yours. I would welcome your input as too my wing. So far the response has been good. Bye the way, a friend of mine is selling his 94 Deville with 54K orig. and she is pretty. He is asking 4,500. Is there a place here for me to let the world know about his baby?

michael96
05-24-06, 10:33 AM
Hey Stone, have you considered foglights?, I think they would look great with the grill. Also, I am about to add high intensity blue headligts, directional marker lights and reverse lights to her.

Frost
05-24-06, 10:55 AM
Go for it Michael - I replaced ALL my exterior lights with the Eurolite blues. The back-up lights really get people's attention, now! the front lights, when viewed from a certain angle, definitely take on a blue tinge. Some like it, other's don't. But at the end of the day, it's your car,,,,your call.

If you REALLY want to make people scratch their heads 'n nuts when looking your car over, put a "DEVILLE" emblem on the lense of your 3rd brakelight. A definite pita to install, but once it's in there, whenever you hit those binders, the rest of the world behind you will have no doubt what you're driving. It was a 1 hour, 2 bandaid and 3 pint job for me,,,,,,,,

Stoneage_Caddy
05-24-06, 11:46 AM
well ive always wanted fog lights on it . but where i want them requires major surgery to the bumper so i havent really wanted to deal with it ...

the wing aint bad ...think thats the first ive seen with a wing

michael96
05-24-06, 02:32 PM
The HD lights will be my next project. For me, the headlights in HD will be a godsend as I live in the country and with the deer and all, I think it will help a ton. I love the idea of doing that to my 3rd brakelight and will look into it. I think I would prefer it to say "Cadillac" but either one will do. I forgot to mention that I have 12 interior lights on my 96 Deville (in addition to the standard ones) that are tinted red with a dimmer. Needless to say I can create atmosphere in the cabin at any given moment. The ladies love it!!

Hi, nice looking Deville with low miles!!!
I don't know if all the guys looked at all the pics, but I would seriously re-consider that wing. Yes, it is subtle, but when I see the pics without the wing vs. with the wing, the wing just looks off with the lines of the car.
You might re-consider the front fog lights you are running too, those are for imports.
Dont get me wrong, the car is good looking, but it is a Cadi crusier, not a 2 door ricer.

Frost
05-25-06, 01:27 PM
Michael, following are those pics I talked about.

Pic one is that brakelight with "DEVILLE" installed.

Pic 2 is a Eurolite installed in the cornering lamp.

Pic 3 is a Eurolite treatment done to the interior bulbs of the car

Pic 4 shows the wood kit for the '97

Pic 5 details the leather "strips" I put around the wood pieces on the doors. Without those strips, the pieces looked kind of unfinished. With the strips, it gives it more of a factory appearance. At least in my view.

Pic 6 is just for fun. It's a pic of a jewelry box I made for my wife last Christmas!

michael96
05-25-06, 03:16 PM
Hey Frost, thanks for taking the time to show me those pics. I never thought of putting the blue lights in the interior but is a great idea. I see you take your Deville as seriously as I do mine. Very cool. I especially love the way the cornering lights look. Am going to do my lights in about 2 weeks.

What fog lights would you use?

Frost
05-25-06, 05:09 PM
If it wasn't going to cost me an arm and a leg for them, I'd put in the ones that came with the Concours model for my year car. Last time I checked, it was going to be around $275 EACH side for the housings, then you had to contend with the wiring and installing the switch insdie the cabin. Too rich for my blood, But I DO think they finish off the front end nicely.

Until the '97-99 concours cars start showing up in the junkyards around here, I'll just have to wait.

michael96
05-25-06, 10:59 PM
Understood. would love to see pics of your deville (outside) oh you know i also have a 2000 dts in pearl white no mods though just another daily driver

05-26-06, 07:26 AM
Thanks for your interest, Michael.

I'm in the process of doing some upgrades to the exterior, (stainless steel rocker panels - and believe me, those come with one HELL of a story about the vendor and their idea of customer service - and new=to=me 2002 chrome Deville rims from CardioDoc, shod with new vogues). If you ever need anything to do with Cadillac rims, I've found that he is your best bet.

In the meantime, I pulled one out of my archives, taken late last August at dawn. The parking lights are made by Eurolite, as well.

Frost
05-26-06, 03:35 PM
Last one Michael, showing the rear back-up lights with the Eurolite blues installed,,,,,while they look decidely "blue" in these pics, when lit up they take on a ghostly, bright white hue - and it certainly gets the attention of anyone who happens to be behind you when you do it!

michael96
05-26-06, 03:50 PM
Your car is so clean, love it. The lights look terrific and will have mine done after the holiday. As far as the wheels go, for me, I am afraid to venture into a wheel that is not stock as I am afraid it will look like a rig. Is the SDV a canadian Deville?

michael96
05-26-06, 03:54 PM
Having trouble finding cardiodoc online can you help?

Frost
05-26-06, 08:49 PM
Go to ebay and type in cardio doc - he'll be there. The rims i'm getting ARE stock cadillac rims - just a different year and style. In 2002 Cadillac offered these rims in a chrome version and for my money, chrome far exceeds that brushed aluminum crap that the '97 sedan deville came with.

This car is American through and through. It was built in Hamtramk (sp?) and delivered to Coastal Cadillac in Port Richie, Florida. Before it got to them though, it made a short side trip to a company called Coachworks Limousine for some "unique" touches that the 1st owner wanted - like the leather seats. Attached is a quick snap of them. I've never seen another set like them, with the embroidered shield/wreath in the headrests. Have a look and see if they look familiar,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

This company also added some heavy duty items like alternator, brakes, suspension, etc., but kept the 5 lug wheels and the frame is definitely NOT the bolstered version that the livery jobs got.

Strange dude, that 1st owner.

michael96
05-27-06, 09:57 PM
Thanks for the cardio tip, will look there. would like to see your wheels when done. Oh bye the way, LOVE YOUR CAR

Very nice cars, the wing is the best looking I've ever seen on a caddy, yet I'm still not sure about it, its not that it looks bad, I just also really like the stock look.

Which of your cars do you like better?

michael96
06-05-06, 03:02 PM
That is a hard call, i love the power of my DTS but adore the wafty Caddy ride of my 96 Deville

Benzilla
06-05-06, 09:56 PM
So the DTS is faster? I thought they had the same engine?

CADDYBLACK99
06-06-06, 09:26 AM
Great job Michael!

The wing looks mint. I spotted that one when I first got my 99' but didn't have the 'onions' to buy and install it. I never saw a Deville with a wing it came out nice.

Nice job on the tips, mine are a bit more conservative (here) (http://www.cadillacforums.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/1448/si/NEW%20CHROME%20TIPS/what/allfields/name/CADDYBLACK99) but I do want them out a little further.
I have the Concours so I have the factory fogs with silverstar 893's in them.
Good luck

I you would have asked, I'd say no, but that looks very smooth. And , yes, the third light adds to it all.

michael96
06-07-06, 02:28 PM
Same engine different output, my DTS is faster as it has the Northstar with 300HP my 96 Deville has the 275HP Northstar, in 96 the Deville Concours came with the 300HP mine is not a Concours so it has 275. And it is a noticeable difference. Mr. Black, thank you very much that is exactly the kind of input i have been looking for, I agree it is very sharp, and i do get asked about it all the time. I am noticing little cutouts in your bumper for your pipes, were they there or did you add? And yes my next project is to replace all the bulbs with High intensity blue, I think it will look good especially since the headlights go on anytime the car is in drive.

CADDYBLACK99
06-07-06, 03:12 PM
The cutouts where there they are not apronounced as they look. With the car off and the suspension is in park the are just at the edge. When started and the auto leveler kicks in and the rearend lifts to level they become more exposed. Here is a front end of a DTS concept called ICON that I like. The mesh treatment in the lower grille and the rectangle and round fog/driving light combo.

When my shop did their install, I went out of my way to drill into their noggins that when it came to cutting my valence, "LESS IS MORE" - and if they took too much off, then they would looking at ponying up for a replacement panel!

My prerequisites for those tips was plain and simple - no more than an inch extending from the valence, no more than 1/4 inch showing between the tops of the tips and the underside curve of the valence cutout. In the end, they cut so little out of that curve, that it looks factory ie; no cutting done at all.

Mind you, at the hourly rate they charged, this was a pricey little exercise because there was alot of trial and error in the fitting stage (cut a little, trim and buff the edge, stand back to take a gander at your progress, cut a little more, trim and buff, etc., etc., etc). But when you only have one shot at it and the owner is breathing down your neck and the cutting tool is in your hand,,,,,well, it causes one to pause.

As I mentioned in another thread, what I DIDN'T want was to have the exhaust tips hanging out several inches, throbbing like some prepubescent's weiner everytime the htrottle was nailed. Looking at the pic, I think they got it just right,,,,,

Ahhh, the icing on the cake. Now I have 3 Cadillac horns under the hood. I added one from a 1970 coupe, a 1976 Eldo and the original. When I hit the horn. Hehe, people MOVE!!! Oh here she is at X-mas.

Three horns? cool, do they all work together or just blast dissidence?

michael96

They all work in unison it is one big bad ass Cadillac Blast. And I aint finished yet I am looking for one from 58 or 59 eldo to work seperate and or together with the others HeheheHaHaHAHAHA!!!!!

btw the car was hit with a deer so the other part (not the actual chrome grille part, but the thing colored part that goes on the sides and bolts on to the hood is half broken. Where can I get one of those..my car is the forest green color
